The New Kids in Town ( Jnr)

Two cars and a moving van drove through town, past the mall, the student apartments, and the college. Oliver sat in the passenger seat and looked at his new home city. It was small compared to Vancouver. No high-rise buildings, no china-town, no stadium, no coast; and no massive family village to go home to. He knew very few people, which was odd for him. He’d been heavily involved in Vancouver’s pack, and in his own family. Here, he knew the five people in the cars with him. He had a hard time not feeling like the Pack had exiled them here. He knew it wasn’t true. They had been chosen to begin a new pack; He still wasn’t sure how he was to go about this. Leave notes on message boards? “Hi! I’ve just moved in to start a pack! Please come to a pack meeting to discuss the details at the following date and time!” Sure, that would work real well.

Their first destination was on the south end of town, and a good ways up a mountain; His family had purchased him a bit of property: it included its own lake. The house wasn’t finished yet, or so he had been told. Knowing his Denfather’s taste, he guessed that ‘house’ was probably an understatement.
He was right. “Nice starting out place, eh Oly?” laughed Brian, his denbrother. “No half-measures from dad, eh? We should trade that silly hat of yours for a crown: he’s built you a castle!” Oliver shook his head, but could hardly dispute what he said. The house was enormous, and if he wasn’t mistaken, had 3 mini-towers.
“Ridiculous.” Oliver muttered with a smile and shoved his hands into the pockets of his blue navy over-coat. “And what’s so silly about my hat?” he asked; defensive of his brown newsie’s hat.

Two hours later, Oliver and Brian took one of the cars back out to town. He was eager to check out the university, and also see if they couldn’t make any contacts with Wolven in town. The Vancouver pack had given them some leads, but nothing too solid: a favored hang out, and a couple of names, including a professor at the college, and the owner of the eclectic hardware store.
They started at the University. Although Oliver had already been accepted, he wasn’t able to start his courses until the winter quarter; but he was eager to introduce himself to one of his future professors. His cell rang as Brian was parking the car. It was Raph, one of the scouts the pack had sent down to help out. “We’ve got all the stuff unloaded into the garage” which was the only finished enough structure to really do so “and Kally and Maris want to look around the property now; Is there anything you wanted Carl and I to do?” Carl was a warrior; Marisa another judge; and Kally was a hunter. Brian was also a scout.
It was weird being asked to make executive decisions. “Head into town, have a look around. Find the clubs, and parks, and a good restaurant for tonight. Oh, and locate the coffee shops. Keep your eyes open, eh? Give me a call back about the restaurant; We’ll meet up around 7 for dinner; Brian and I will go pick up the girls.”

“Can you make em pretty this time?” Raph responded, with a grin in his voice.
Oliver laughed, “Shall I pass your compliments on to Marisa then?”
“Only if you want a dead scout on your hands. Later, Oly.” He said, and hung up. Oliver sighed, and put his phone away. He hated that nickname. “Remind me to forbid anyone from calling me ‘Oly’ ever again,” he said to Brian as they made there way into the student center.
Brian chuckled, “Sure thing, Oly.”
“Original,” Oliver muttered dryly.

Inside the building, they found themselves at the top of a set of stairs. The area below them spread out, with an information desk and what seemed to be computer kiosks to the right and a bookstore and coffee shop on the left. There was a loung area beyond the coffee shop, where students were gathered into various groups: a group played a card game around a low circular table, another group was huddled around a lap top, and laughing; a piano was being played in the corner. On the far side of the building, big glass double doors led to the rest of the campus. Upstairs was a computer lab to the left, and closed office doors to the right.
“Why don’t you go get us some coffee,” Oliver suggested as they made their way down the stairs. “And I’ll go ask about Professor Kelly at the information desk.”

Meanwhile, across town, Raph and Carl parked their car on a street in the middle of town, outside an electronics store. “Lets take a walk, eh?” said Raph. “We’ll get some lunch and ask about parks…” Carl nodded. He wasn’t much of a talker. He did, however, have a photographic memory, and so was very useful to Raph; Besides which, Raph talked enough for three people.
“Excuse me, miss,” he said to a 30-something year old woman, “My friend and I were looking for a good place to have lunch. Do you have any suggestions?” His massive body and shocking blue-black hair, with yellow roots were diminished by his charming demeanor. Carl looked around in seeming distraction.
“Umm… well the Thai place around the corner is pretty good,” she said after a moment of thought. “Its called ‘Blue Ginger’” she finished.
“Thank you!” he said, with a slight bow and a smile. They continued walking. “So, how does Thai sound, mate?” he asked Carl. Carl grunted and shrugged. “Yah, I had it yesterday too. Well, good to know…” They continued on down the street; occasionally wandering into a shop, or Raph would stop people and ask them questions.
They bought hum bow for lunch and found out where the nearest decent sized park was, and started walking towards it…

(((OOC: descriptions are in order.
Oliver’s description can be found on his character sheet. He is wearing, as I said, a navy overcoat, a brown newsies hat, a green sweater over a long sleeve white polo shirt, and dark grey pants.
Brian is slightly taller than Oliver, lighter skinned, brown eyed, and brown haired. His hair is short, and unremarkable. He is thicker than Oliver as well. Slightly on the heavier side, but in a cute sort of way. He is wearing faded dark jeans, a grey sweater, and a black leather jacket.
Raphael (Raph) is big. He’s nearly 7 foot tall, and wide as a bus. Ok, not quite, but massive, and its muscle. His hair is dyed a blue-black color, but it’s grown out and is showing his blond roots. His hair is crazy and messy and poofy. He’s wearing a red tee-shirt and blue cargo pants.
Carl on the other hand is extremely short. Barely 5 foot, and walks with a limp, because one leg is shorter than the other one. Average build/weight for his size. He has short dirty-blond hair, and grey-blue eyes. He’s wearing jeans, a long sleeve light blue tee-shirt, and a black ski jacket. )))

She was reading the comics of a stray newspaper and nibbling the last bits of her double chocolate muffin when the stranger walked into the coffee shop. Not that she knew everybody on campus, but somehow she just knew he didn't quite belong here. So as not to be overly obvious about watching the man, Mylie took another sip of her chai tea and watched him over the rim of the plastic lid. Something about the man was familiar but she knew for a fact she'd never laid eyes on him before.

When Azari rose to the surface from where she'd been napping, Mylie realize just why the man seemed familiar: he was wolven. This fact excited both the wolf and the woman because while they had smelled traces of others of their kind recently on campus, they hadn't actually encountered any. If they weren't in such a public place, Mylie might very well have given in to Azari's urgings and approached the man. Unfortunately, it -was- a very public place and the last thing she wanted to do was draw attention to either herself or the man. So instead she sat quietly contemplating him over her tea.

The comics sat forgotten on the table, but Mylie still had her reading glasses on, a fact she discovered when she went to push some of her hair out of her eyes. She had forgotten to clip back her hair today so the mousey brown curls, while kept short, were continuously falling in her eyes. When her fingers brushed the frame of her glasses, Mylie pulled them off and put them back in their case, all the while watching the stranger out of the corner of her eye.

Actually, Mylie didn't go unnoticed; Brian knew someone else was in the shop immediately upon entering, but didn't look around to figure out whom until after he had ordered their coffees...
"What I want to know," he asked the barrista as he paid for their latte's, "is what makes a normal cup of coffee so 'Americano'. What makes American's so special?" the barrista didn't deserve this kind of treatment, and blinked back at Brian blankly. "I'm sorry sir?"
"Nothing. Can i have two bagels as well?" he knew Oliver would be hungry.
He glanced around the room as he waited for their coffees. It didn't take him long to make brief eye contact with Mylie, and figure out she was the one tweaking his senses. He gave a subtle nod of acknowledgment, took the coffees from the barrista, and casually walked over to where she was sitting.
"Hi. Mind if I join you?" he asked. "My name's Brian."

The man had noticed her, his eyes had caught hers, and all Mylie did was smile at him. She had finally gotten back to reading her comics and even though she smelled him when he walked over to her table, Mylie waited until he spoke before looking up at him. "I'm Mylie, its nice to meet you," she answered as she gestured for him to take the seat across from her with her tea.

When Brian sat down, Mylie smiled at him again and asked, "So, are you a new student here?" She knew it was a fairly pathetic attempt at conversation but she never really had much interaction with Wolven she didn't know. All the other Wolven in her life, were either her family or the Pack she belonged to in the neighboring town.

Brian glanced at the door as he sat down, carefully placing both coffees and bagels on the table, then returning his attention to Mylie.
"No," he answered her question, "But my brother is. I graduated two years ago from a college near Vancouver. He should be joining me in a moment. Will that be alright?" he asked

Oliver walked in as she answered; he was confused to see Brian sitting with the girl, it's not like the shop was especially crowed... Then he picked up a feint sense of her other presence, and relaxed, strolled over, and picked up his coffee.

"Ah, here he is now. Mylie, this is my brother, Oliver." He took a sip of his coffee, and looked up at Oliver. "Did you find your professor?" Brian asked him.
"Well... sort of. I've left him a message; Hopefully He'll get back to me soon. Apparently he's got a class at the moment..." turning to Mylie, he continued: "Pardon me for interrupting, but may I sit down?"

Charlie slid into one of the campus coffee shop, oversized purse slung over one shoulder and a brown-paper wrapped parcel tied with twine carried in the opposite hand. She'd found a rare book on Professor Dunley's list at an estate sale the other day and he was demanding that she deliver it today.

So here she was and he wasn't even in his office. Charlie ordered a Chai Tea and sat down at one of the few free tables. After placing the book on the table, Charlie glanced around. As always, she'd taken stock of the people in the shop when she'd entered but now she took the chance to get a better look. There were wolven in this shop. Charlie narrowed her eyes. It was rare that she'd get a jolt of finding another Wolven but she'd been finding more and more over the past few months and that made her curious.

There was a group of fellow wolvens huddled near the entryway. Charlie tilted her head just a bit and spotted two men and a female. There definatly was more of her kind showing up lately. It almost made the area feel like home.

When Brian explained that it was his brother who would be attending the college, Mylie smiled. It was sweet of him to see his brother off like he was and she couldn't help but wonder how old his brother was. If he was going to be a permanant fixture at the University, she was actually a bit hopeful they might be able to be friends. She had already noticed the two coffees and bagels when Brian asked if it would be alright if his brother joined them and Mylie just nodded affirmatively to answer him.

When another stranger strolled into the cafe, Mylie had a feeling the man was Brian's brother. When he approached the table, and Brian announced that the man's name was Oliver she knew she'd been correct. She listened quietly as the brothers spoke and when Oliver turned his attention to her and apologized for interrupting, she just waved it off and gestured for him to sit. "Not a problem, I was just killing time between classes anyway."

Almost on the heels of Oliver taking the other seat across from her, Mylie sensed a third wolven enter the cafe. Her head was reeling a bit with all the new scents coming to her nose, and when she looked around the two men, she saw it was a female this time. When she realized she wasn't paying attention to her table partners, Mylie blushed ever so slightly and pulled her attention back to the men sitting across from her.

She wanted to apologize for her actions but she honestly didn't know what to say. She wasn't sure just how open the men were about their heritage and the last thing she wanted to do was offend them. Finally she opted for something rather neutral sounding to anybody that might be listening but that the men could understand if they had any inclination to think about it. "Sorry, its just so rare to see new people in town. There seems to be more and more of them every day even though I don't always see them."

"Thanks!" Oliver said, as he pulled up a third chair to their little table. Which was about when Charlie walked in, and Mylie spaced out. He took a sip of his coffee, and grimaced. "You forgot the sugar, Brian!"
"No I didn't. You told me you were trying to cut back, remember?" He replied.
Brian, ever sensative, felt the presence of another, but felt it would be rude, not to mention fairly obvious, to merely turn and look at the newcomer. Oliver, who was much less sensative to such things, was oblivious and only glanced over at Charlie because Mylie had done so.
"Well, we're definately new." Oliver replied to her question. "and we hardly know a soul in town, except the six of us who just moved here together. Rather interested in settling in though." He did his best to inflect that he did indeed understand her, but was unsure if he had succeeded, "Have you lived here long? Know the city pretty well?" He finished by taking another sip of his coffee, and grimacing again.
"All right, all right, I'll go see if they have any honey! Geez..." Brian said, and stood up and trudged over to the 'stuff' bar, casually glancing over at Charlie as he walked. She seemed... grumpy. Not very, just a little put out, if he wasn't mistaken. Which he could be, judging people's moods was not his forte.
Back at the table, Oliver looked at Brian's back a little oddly: a slight smile, but also confusion: either Brian was starting to treat him more like a leader (which was odd coming from his denbrother, and a little annoying, if not unexpected) or he was getting up for some other reason, and Oliver didn't know what it was... He shook his head, and gave his attention back to Mylie.
