Teeth: straight thanks to braces as a child, almost white, slightly elongated canines

Personality
Maira is quiet around people she doesn‘t know. If she‘s with her friends however, she can be bubbly and goofy. She is very laid back and non-confrontational unless she has to be. Even before being bitten, Maira had the temper of an enraged wild cat once provoked. She will fight, physically if need be, for what she believes in, namely her friends and family. Maira tends to be considered a bit of a hermit by her friends, perfectly content to sit at home and read, but she does love to spend time with her friends. More often than not they try and break her out of her shell by taking her clubbing (where she got bitten).

History
Maira’s past, at least with her family, is kind of rocky. Her parents divorced when she was very young and her Dad moved back to Ireland, where he was originally from, as soon as the divorce was final. He didn’t want to leave his daughter, but the immigration authorities were threatening to deport him on grounds that they thought his marriage to Maira’s mother had been a sham to gain US citizenship. So, unwillingly, Matthew left his daughter with her mother.
Veronica did her best raising Maira alone, she never remarried, and only when Maira was a senior in high school did things get tricky between the two of them. When Maira didn’t get into the schools she wanted she decided she didn’t want to go to college at all. Her mother threw a fit, demanding Maira pack her things and get out. If she wasn’t going to college then she needed to be an adult and that meant no longer living in her mother’s house. Maira was devastated by her mother’s proclamation at first, later the devastation turned to resentment. To get back at her mother, Maira packed up and left without warning.
Through the years Maira’s father had kept in contact with her as best he could, considering the distance, and when she left her mother’s house she put most of her stuff in storage except for a suitcase of clothes and a few other necessities. Then she bought a ticket to Ireland. It wasn’t her first trip to see him, but it was her first unplanned trip and she couldn’t wait to surprise him.
Only the surprise was on her. When she discovered Maira gone, Veronica called Matthew in a panic and he assured her that if their daughter showed up he’d take her in and let Veronica know. So, with a little bit of research, Matthew was able to find Maira’s flight information and gathered the family at his house to greet her. So, when Maira arrived at her father’s house in Ireland, she was surrounded with love and hugs and good food. Maira didn’t mean to but she stayed in Ireland for a few years before moving back to the US. With a few suggestions from her Uncle Finn, Maira settled in Cedar Valley, WA and started working at the local animal shelter.
Life was pleasantly uneventful for Maira for the next two years, until one night her friends Sammy and Nate took her out dancing and to introduce her to a guy they thought she’d like. She did like him quite a bit, until he bit her and drew blood that is. Maira had no idea what was going on but Sammy did. While Maira’s mind started to buzz and blank out, Sammy reamed out the idiot who had bitten her. Then, since she had no other choice, Sammy hauled Maira along with her to the ‘after party’ that Maira was always too worn out to go to. It wasn’t actually a party but a meeting of Sammy and Nate’s Pard. They were Shifters. Were-Leopards. Pard.
Once surrounded by all the other members of Sammy’s Pard, all of them Shifting into their animal form, Maira’s own body followed suit. She has no recollection of that night, all she knows is what happened starting the morning after when she awoke naked in a tangled pile of other naked humans and leopards.
Her time with the Cedar Valley Pard wasn’t very long-lived. Almost immediately she fell into a relationship with a fellow Pard member, her mentor Dayan, and their feline halves quickly decided to pair off as mates. Things were going really well for the pair of them until one night Dayan went out for a run as Inka, his black leopard half, and never returned home. Maira had been ill and had stayed in that night instead of running with him and when she woke the next morning to an empty house she was very worried. She immediately alerted the Pard leaders who brought their best trackers out to Dayan’s house in the forest to search for the lost leopard. All the trackers found was a disturbed clearing that smelled heavily of Dayan, rage, and three other unidentified males.
After that, Maira kept hoping that Dayan would return but she did her best to move on with her life. She threw herself into her work and did her best to learn about her Moon Phase abilities as a Death Walker. A few of the Pard males showed interest in her but Maira really wasn’t up for dating as she was still hoping Dayan would return.
It had been nearly a year since Dayan’s disappearance when Maira’s life again took an unexpected turn. One of the males who had been showing interest in Maira approached her about joining him and two other females as a committed foursome. Maira had just gawked at him in surprise and walked away. Not only was she not up for dating, but that was just something that Maira had no desire to be a part of. Apparently, the two females in the man’s triad didn’t like the idea of adding Maira to the mix, and before the male had a chance to tell them that Maira had rejected his offer, the two of them attacked her while she was in human form and they were in their leopard forms. Twilight’s Rain quickly surged to dominance and despite the teamwork of the pair, she somehow managed to get them to leave her alone but not before she was cut and bloody from their claws and teeth.
As the females had been foolish enough to attack Maira at a Pard gathering, the leaders quickly found out about the situation and settled it. Despite the triad being punished, Maira just didn’t feel safe anymore. She called her father crying, explaining everything that had happened to her in the past year, and he promised to send her Uncle Finn out to bring her home to Ireland.
Only when Finn arrived two days later, Maira didn’t want to go back to Ireland. She’d had time to think, and even though she couldn’t stay in Cedar Valley anymore she still needed to be around others of her kind. She knew the moment that Finn walked into her house that he wasn’t who she’d always thought he was. Twilight’s Rain could distinguish his non-human status easily and she couldn’t help but prickle defensively when Maira became nervous. After a near panic attack, and a grueling round of questions from Maira to Finn, Maira found out just what he and most of their family was. Including her father who had chosen, a few years prior, to be bitten and Turned Mutari.
After the shock of the family’s secret wore off, Maira finally asked Finn if he could help her find another Pard she could join, or at least some solitaries that wouldn’t mind an extra leopard sharing their hunting grounds. She was surprised to find out that Finn did know of a place, and she was even more shocked to hear just where it was located. The town that her Aunt Chastity lived in, Point Hope in Alaska, had a few snow leopards running around from time to time and the resident vet was half snow leopard himself. Point Hope sounded like the perfect solution to Maira’s dilemma, family and other leopards around. Finn got in contact with Chastity and explained Maira’s situation and within a few hours Finn had arranged everything to get Maira on a plane north and her stuff packed up by movers and on a truck within the week.
