Character name: Sanura
Genome: Virus Bitten
Beast name: Nemesis
Faction: Cheetah
Moon Phase/Abilities: Full Moon/Hunter
Pack:
Age: 21/March 7, 2004
Gender: female
Sexuality: hetero
Appearance: Sanura is roughly 5’10 and all long lean muscle with just a few curves in the right places. She had straight long black hair that fell to the middle of her back before she was infected. Afterwards, due to grief mostly, she cut all her hair off to just below her chin. She still wears it short, as the eventually started to like the easier managability, but it in no way looks boyish. Her light grey-green eyes, surrounded by think black lashes, are a bit of a surprise to most people the first time they notice them. Her skin is a medium golden brown tone naturally and darkens if she is out in the sun for any amount of time.
Beast form: When taken by the Beast, Sanura is a large female Cheetah. Athletic and graceful looking as any natural Cheetah, Nemesis could often be mistaken for the males of the species because of her size. If she were ever to be compared to the male Virus infected Cheetahs however, she would be considered small. The only real difference in her appearance from that of a natural Cheetah is her eyes, they stay the same grey green as her human form.
Personality: She is leery of most people no matter how nice they are to her. On rare occasions people have somehow slipped past her defenses and actually befriended her. Those few people she will defend with her life.
Beast disposition: 5-6; As anti-social and leery as her human counterpart, Nemesis is typically in good agreement with her human.
Infected at age: 19
Contagion: Bitten on a college summer abroad tour in Egypt when she and a few other students went wandering in the middle of the night.
History: Sanura’s family moved to America when she was three years old from Egypt. Her uncle, her father’s brother, had started a business in the States and had invited his younger brother and his family over to help run it. At three, Sanura hadn’t really cared one way or another, it was all one big adventure for her.
Growing up a minority had been a little difficult on Sanura but she was strong and resilient and not much got to her. The friends she made became like her family as she grew up with them.
High school was hell for Sanura. Her family moved to a new city, leaving all of Sanura’s close friends behind. At her new school girls were girls and utterly cruel. Sanura, while not looking like most of them, was the most exotic thing to happen to their little bitty high school. Sports were her only salvation, namely the soccer team. Sanura’s team mates quickly silenced the mocking snickers of the ‘in’ crowd and they accepted her with open arms. Without them, Sanura likely wouldn’t have gotten through high school as well as she did.
College was much easier for Sanura than high school had been. There had been much more diversity and acceptance than in her small town school. Sanura became quite involved in her college activities, again playing soccer, and her first year she finished with better marks than she ever had in high school.
The summer after her first year of college, Sanura’s parents had encouraged her to participate in the Summer Abroad program to Egypt that her college offered. As she wanted to be an Archeology major it was actually a very good idea.
Seeing as how Sanura still had family in Egypt, she was able to spend many of her weekends doing more traveling and having more freedom than her fellow students. Maybe because of this, quite a few of them flocked to her for friendship. One of the male students in particular, Sanura had become quite taken with and he with her and nearly every weekend he would accompany her to her family’s home and on whatever excursions they would take her on. The pair had even written home to their families back in America that they intended to get married.
One night nearing the end of her trip, Sanura and her fiancé and a few of their other friends got the urge to go for a walk some time after midnight. It wasn’t against any rules of the program for them to be out that late so the group assumed they’d be safe enough. They were wrong.
They had wandered for nearly an hour just talking and getting some fresh air and were nearly home when there was a scuffling noise from an alley as they walked past. Worried that somebody was getting mugged, the group went to investigate. Almost as soon as they had entered the alley a huge bleeding form lunged at Sanura and latched onto her arm with its fangs and it started to shake her.
When she screamed her fiancé went to her aid. He had just pulled the beast off of her, when it stood up on hind legs and made to lunge at his face with the same fangs that had just torn Sanura’s arm to shreds. A gun went off and the beast stopped mid lunge and collapsed in a heap. Sanura’s fiancé collapsed on top of the beast. The bullet had gone all the way through the beast’s head and into his, he was dead in an instant.
Sanura spent her remaining days in Egypt in a daze. Nothing seemed important to her any more, not her friends, not her studies, not even her own life. Her friends had to force her to eat and drink at times. When she finally returned home, Sanura abandoned her dreams and secluded herself in her room for days on end.
Her first Change took Sanura completely by surprise. It was the night of the Full Moon and she was actually sitting in her window seat in her bedroom staring at it. Her parents were out of town for business (though her mother had fretted about leaving her alone in the state she was in) which was probably the only thing that saved them. An enraged Cheetah destroyed their home that night and in the morning Sanura packed her things and left. Not only was she damned to live out her days without the man she loved, now she was damned to live her life as only half human. There was a beast inside of her that would not be silenced and could kill way to easily. Sanura took control of her nemesis quickly and the two sides settled into an easy balance. All the same, the damage was done. Sanura would never again be the sweet happy ‘kitten’ her parents had named her.
Sanura’s days alone helped her learn who she was again after the tragedy and the trauma of the past few months. It wasn’t long though before she started noticing other people like her in the area. None of them felt like Cheetahs to her, as Nemesis assured her she would know them on sight, but they were definitely feline. Sanura watched them closely for some time before finally one of them approached her and asked if she wanted to join their Pard. That took some explaining.
Apparently the other felines were Leopards. As she was a lone Cheetah and one of the few they had ever seen they had wondered if she wanted to belong to their ‘family’ of sorts. At first Sanura had wanted to decline but after a while she gave in and accepted their offer. While she may not be the most social member of the Pard, Sanura has come to be one of the most skilled Hunters.
As soon as she joined the Pard, the Elders had been more than willing to answer as many of her questions as they could. They explained to her all the complexities of her new life. Most importantly though, they explained what had likely been happening in that alley where she had been bitten and her fiancé killed. They told her it was likely a Cheetah gone Feral, meaning the beast had taken control, and a Hunter had killed it before it could harm any innocent humans. She had asked why the Hunter hadn’t told her that himself and had been given the answer: “He was probably hoping you would die too. Hunters kill our kind indiscriminately most days, only rarely acting in our best interests if there is a Feral around they can kill instead. Likely the only reason he didn’t put a bullet in you right there was because there were too many witnesses.”
Since that day of brutal honesty, Sanura has hunted more than one Hunter and brought him or her to justice for their crimes against the Dark Ones. She hunts for information leading to the Hunter that killed her fiancé. She is no longer just a Nemesis to herself…
