History
Darien was born as the youngest of 13 children to the Moriba Council members, Jacob and Echo. His upbringing was almost akin to the "all-american family" as he was taught strict manners that his parents expected him to uphold at all times. He was taught hard work and determination as well as level-headedness, and is expected to be at every family function with a smile on his face, whether he wants to be there or not.
Darien's childhood was not a hard one, but he had his difficulties as everyone does. He was not permitted to play with human children before Junior High, a rule that was set for all his siblings and carried to him. His parents feared the children getting hurt, or worse; telling their parents that there were vampires living amoung them. As a Moriba child, his powers were evident very early, and they were very strong, which happened with all of his family, but he could have been a possible threat to human children. Because of this, he formed a strong bond with the two of his older brothers that were closest to his age.
When Darien entered Junior High he met four others who served to be his closest friends throughout the rest of his life. Gershom, one of his best friends, was taken under Darien's wing because he was shunned for not being a natural born Kasi, and Chase's wild behavior complimented his own enough to draw them closer. Maila had started out as a minor annoyance, but she grew on Darien and she had been a friend of Corbin's, who had been a love interest of his. Though, ever the gentleman his parents had taught him to be, he and Corbin ended up shyly dancing around each other until they started High School.
In High School, Darien's little gaggle of friends had somehow managed to become the cool, distant kids that everyone was too intimidated by to mess with. Darien knew that the vampires shyed away because both he and Chase were children of council members and powerful in their own right, but he hadn't understood why humans were so hesitant. They should have been labeled the dorks anyway, as Darien was top of his class and the other five were lined up right behind him. When Darien had finally confessed his feeling to Corbin, around the end of Freshmen year, he also confessed to the fact that he was a vampire. She had taken the news rather well, simply smiling at him and confessing that she had already known. Her family had grown up around vampires, and they also warned her about getting so close to the son of a Council member, but she had ignored their warnings and followed her heart.
The two had stayed together all throughout High School, deemed the fated HS sweethearts. By the end of their Senior year, they had ended up being each others firsts in about every way possible and the rest of the student body were taking bets on when they would get married, but it wasn't to be. Darien and Corbin were very close, close enough to understand that the two of them needed time apart to explore their horizons and make their own places in the world, so after graduation they went their separate ways. If fate brought them back together, then they both agreed they would take the opportunity, but until then they were on their own.
Darien went off to college to follow his passion for the stars, as well as his aptitude at math and physics, and plans to keep going with his quest for knowledge until he had a PhD under his belt. He shares a townhouse with Chase and Gershom, as well as a human friend they all met at college, Alex, and Darien acts as the big brother of the house. He makes sure they all stay out of trouble, at least most of the time, and is always there if they need a friend. He indulges Chase in his clubbing and accompanies his friend, and though he enjoys himself, he would never admit it to Chase, or he'd never live it down. Now he just needs to finish his Senior year at college, and maybe improve his social life a little.
