Character name: Emily Renee Richards
Bloodline: Unda
Innate Power: Water
Age: 21
Gender: female
Sexuality: hetero
Appearance: Emily is 5’7 with chin length curly black hair and dark dusky blue eyes. Where Jezza, her younger sister, has a lean runner’s build with a few curves, Emily has more obvious curves. Her figure, though rather lean as well, could never be mistaken for Jezza’s. Emily got the same tattoo Jezza had on her left wrist in remembrance of her (assumed) dead sister.
Personality: Emily was always the quietest of the three sisters, the middle child, the oddball. While Jezza did soccer and Caroline did volleyball, Emily was always a musician. She is, and always has been, rather lost in her own little world at times. When Jezza was killed Emily retreated even farther into herself. Only since joining an up-and-coming rock band has Emily started to come out of her shell. Her bandmates know her quirks and are very accepting of her.
Infected at age: 20
Contagion: Bitten by a male vampire who was trying to bring her out of her fog of depression after her sister died.
History: Life for Emily is split into two distinct time-frames: life before her sister was killed and life after. Before Jezza’s death, life was for Emily that of a typical American teenage girl; full of fun and drama. Though Emily and Jezza were complete opposites in personality and interests they were still very close. They were closer with each other than either of them were with their older sister Caroline.
When Jezza started going through some rough times (Jezza was 16, Emily was 19) Emily grew incredibly worried. All their lives Jezza had talked to Emily about everything and now the younger girl was suddenly silent.
When Jezza went missing shortly after her 17th birthday, Emily grew frantic. Her parents, quite fed up with Jezza’s rebellious antics, told Emily and Caroline repeatedly that Jezza’s disappearance was just another of those antics. Neither of Jezza’s sisters believed their parents and so they filed a missing person report. It wasn’t long before Jezza’s clothes were found muddied and torn to shreds in the forest not far from their home.
The girls’ parents were distraught and blamed themselves for their youngest daughter’s death. Emily was completely overwhelmed and went into a deep fit of depression and ran away from home. Of course at 20 years old there was legal action her family could take to force her home. Caroline, the most clear thinking out of the devastated family, arranged her youngest sister’s funeral.
Emily had no notion of time after her sister’s funeral, nor did she really care where life took her. Somehow she wound up in a back alley of New York City and only when she felt fangs piercing her throat did reality snap back into focus for Emily. The feeling that took over her body at that bite was both excruciatingly painful and excruciatingly pleasurable and Emily couldn’t help but react. The whispered question, “What are you doing?” was enough to stop her attacker mid-bite. The vampire pulled away from Emily and with a surprised and slightly bloody smile he told her.
He had apparently been following Emily for a couple weeks, guarding her from the more predatory humans and Dark Ones alike, waiting for her to show some sign of life beyond the required breathing, walking, eating and sleeping. When he could no longer stand to watch her suffer, he had begged his Council members to let him bite her to try and rouse her. Luckily for both of them, the vampire’s idea had worked.
When he had finished telling Emily his story, she had asked what happened next, if she was now a vampire. As he had never turned anybody before, he wasn’t sure so he gave her his phone number and told her to call him if she woke up with a headache as that is what he’d heard was an indication that a human had been turned.
After that night Emily did wake up with a horrible headache and so she called the vampire who had bitten her. She spent a few weeks with him learning her new powers and a few more weeks after that just to build up the nerve to go home.
Once she was home though, Emily wasn’t happy. Her family wasn’t the same without Jezza. Packing up her most important belongings (mostly her music and various instruments) she moved back to New York City. She lived with the vampire who had Turned her, now a good friend, until he took her to an audition for a band. Emily thought it just a crazy attempt on his part to get her out of the apartment for a couple hours; she was wrong. He had heard her play and read her lyrics and knew she would fit the group. Only after auditions were over and she had been offered the parts of keyboard player and secondary guitar did Emily find out the group had not one single “normal” human in it.
It wasn’t long before the group started traveling for their shows and of course Emily went too. She thanked her vampire friend for her second chance at life and left New York City to travel where the music would take her.
