History
Savannah was raised by her mother Nyanya, a nomad werelion. They kept mostly to themselves while travelling from Central America to the US and around Canada. Nyanya, despite being a nomad, had decided long ago that her daughter would have a proper education and she homeschooled her until she was 16 when she got her high school diploma. Her mother believed that if they avoided other werelions they wouldn’t run the risk of being asked/forced to join a pride. This worked until Savannah was 17 when her mother finally found the love of her life, another nomad, and Nyanya left with him to go travel Europe and Asia.
Once on her own, Savannah applied to various colleges with correspondence programs in the major she wanted to pursue: Native American History. To help support herself through college, Savannah started writing for an online magazine. At first she just wrote short stories but when the people who ran the magazine noticed that many of her stories were based on actual history they asked her to write some articles as well.
At 19, Savannah caught the eye of a male nomad. Grant was almost 15 years her senior and while she wasn’t really looking for a mate he was fun to spend some time with and he had a whole new perspective on life from the one her mother had. Despite all this, Savannah didn’t stay with him for more than a month before going her own way. Little did she know that Grant had given her a very special parting gift.
Almost a month after she parted ways with Grant, Savannah realized she was pregnant. At first she was shocked. After all, virus-weres had very low fertility rates and despite never using birth control her mother had only ever gotten pregnant once. Considering that Savannah was –on- birth control and still got pregnant, the only thing she could figure was that Grant was a true-were. Once she got over her shock, Savannah did the responsible thing and temporarily settled down so she could stay in one place for her prenatal care and the birth of her baby, a girl she named Kimana.
After her follow up appointment, when Kimana was 6 weeks old, Savannah finally caved to the need to move on. She had barely been travelling for two weeks when Savannah unknowingly entered the territory of a newly formed Pride. They approached her and asked her to join them because so far they were very short on females. She refused politely and tried to leave. The males didn’t like being refused and tried pressuring her to stay. Again she told them in no uncertain terms, “no”. At this refusal, one of the males tried to grab her and drag her away which caused Savannah to panic.
Kimana held securely against her body inside her coat, to keep her out of the cold, Savannah kicked the male holding her in the groin and then tried to run. Before she knew what was happening, two of the other males had shifted into their lion form and were after her. The first managed to swipe at her right thigh, cutting deep with his claws and causing her to stumble, the other took advantage of her loss in balance and launched himself at her back, biting her left shoulder and knocking her to the ground. By some miracle Savannah didn’t land on Kimana but the front paw of the male who knocked her to the ground had wrapped around the front of her (where the baby was wrapped) and dug his claws in thinking it was just Savannah. The wails from the injured baby stopped the attacking males cold. The two that had wounded Savannah quickly shifted back and tried to help her up and inspect the hidden bundle inside her coat, Savannah wouldn’t let them near her. Instead she tried to again get away so she could get herself and Kimana to the hospital but before she got more than a few steps the crying stopped and Savannah knew the worst had happened. Still she tried to keep making her way to the hospital but her grief and her own blood loss weakened her too much and she collapsed.
Life after the attack and the loss of her daughter was a dark place for Savannah. She still hasn’t totally recovered from it. Knowing that she had to move on, Savannah has done her best to put everything behind her and continue with her studies. She has finished her Bachelor’s degree and is now looking for a good college to do her Master’s at.
