The Supernatural Bit
Custos/Angel
Deity: Cernunnos
Faction: Offspring of Cernunnos
Ethereal Form: Kayle doesn’t have a typical ethereal form. He doesn’t manifest wings like an angel or Custos. Biologically, he’s mostly human but his father did manage to pass down some unusual traits. He can manifest the horns of a stag; much like his father’s but smaller as he is still quite young. He is also able to shape shift but he isn’t a “Shifter.” He is capable of taking on the forms of many animals, though most of the forms of so-called mythical animals are forbidden to him. He also has an affinity for nature and it isn’t unusual to see animals of all kinds following him around, even if he can’t communicate while human. He has limited telepathic abilities but he has to be in the form of the creature he wishes to communicate with in order to use those abilities.
Appearance
Hair Color: A golden brown sort of color with greenish highlights when his divine nature manifests.
Hair Style: Long, hitting just below his shoulders and caught back by a silver clasp at the nape of his neck

Fitness Level: Kayle considers himself to be very physically fit. Through all the years of his life, he’s kept his body honed through diet and exercise.
Clothing Style: He tends to follow the trends of whatever time period he happens to be in. Some of those bordered on the ridiculous and he only wore them during grand events, mostly because his valet would give him that look when he complained. Now, even though the valet still steer him towards the most current fashions, Kayle finds that he can be comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt. Outer wear, of course, depends on what area he’s living in. He doesn’t wear shoes or socks if he doesn’t have to.
Tattoos: Markings that appear when he manifests but he’s never subjected himself to the ink and needle of a tattoo artist.
Piercing: None
Scars: A collection gained from both roughhousing with his half-siblings, both mortal and divine, and from fighting in various wars.
Personality
He’s a bit absentminded. He doesn’t always pay attention to his surroundings. As such he’s had a few miraculous recoveries from encounters with automobiles. He cares for the children of his mortal siblings as a mysterious relative and makes sure that the family prospers. He’s been known to get them out of tight spots, if they deserve it. Basic History
Cassandra Catesby was the daughter of a land rich but money poor noble during the years of Elizabeth I’s reign on England. Though originally betrothed to the heir of a neighboring noble, the contract was broken when the young man died shortly before the wedding. Her father never arranged for another marriage but trotted her out when he made the acquaintance of older men looking for a young woman to sire heirs on.
When the Earl of Cresthaven made an appearance in London with the idea to find a young wife, Cassandra’s father jumped at the chance to marry his daughter off to the old man. The Earl was a wealthy man and was very willing to pay the family’s debts off in exchange for Cassandra. Her father valued that fact over the fact that the Earl’s title was Irish instead of English.
Cassandra was married to the Earl in short order and moved to Ireland to live on her husband’s estate. Though he had married her for her youth, the Earl was a kind man and rewarded her generously for putting up with his attentions and efforts to get an heir. She did become pregnant but not for many years after the marriage. And they both knew that the Earl wasn’t the father even though he acknowledged the child as both son and heir.
He’d been away for the estate for months, touring his other properties in Ireland and when he came back he found a pregnant wife. He gently questioned her about her expected child. She told him that she didn’t know who the father was, that she’d been drunk while participating in the village’s May Day Celebrations, as expected for the Lady of the house, and had slept with an unknown man. And she swore that at one point during the coupling that the man had grown horns.
The Earl didn’t punish his wife, instead he pampered her. He told her that the man she’d slept with may have been Cernunnos, the Irish God of Fertility. And, because it had been several years since their marriage, he would acknowledge the child as his own if it was a boy. After all, one did not treat the child of a god as a bastard, even if that god was of the old religion.
And so, Kayle Delaney was born and was treated as the heir to the Earl of Cresthaven. And he was a torment to everyone. He drove his nurses, tutors and governesses to drink and his mother to tears. He even made life for the daughters his mother had given to the Earl a living hell. And the Earl called it boyish spirits. Then again, the Earl delighted in the boy and rarely remembered that he wasn’t the father.
Kayle inherited the Earldom shortly before his tenth birthday. And it was shortly after his eleventh that he burned down the mansion. It was then that his mother, standing in the rain and staring at the smoldering ruins of a house she’d come to love, pleaded with the boy’s birth father to do something about the boy. Cernunnos came and took the boy with him to be raised in an environment that suited his high energy youth. There, he had older siblings to teach him some manners.
Cassandra told her neighbors and relatives that she’d sent the boy to school. When he finally returned, at the age of 21, he was a much calmer man. He took over the reins of the Earldom from a resentful uncle. But he had a problem. He would live forever and that just wouldn’t do for a noble. So he concocted a plan with his mother and his cousin, his heir.
After a few years, Kayle had a tragic accident and died. At least, that is what the world thought except for his mother, his cousin and his cousin’s eldest son. Though it was his cousin’s line that would be the public face of the title, Kayle remained in charge. Though the mortals who claimed the title had no real power, they did enjoy all the benefits of noble. Kayle has made it a point to appear to each of the young men who’ve held the title to make sure they understood the situation.
Free from being the public face of The Earl of Cresthaven, Kayle travelled the world. He fought in wars, made friends and learned. In all of his years of life, Kayle has only fallen in love once but that woman betrayed him and his identity as the Earl was nearly uncovered, 150 years after he’d supposedly died. Since then, he’s been more of a love-them-and-leave-them type and mostly with those of his father’s ilk. Those who are different understood his need to keep his true identities, both as Cernunnos’s son and as the Earl hidden.
