Basic History
Though she’d been born as the fourth child to a pair of harsh and unloving parents, Solaris was cherished by all most all who knew her. Helios was fond of her and often said that she was the light and radiance of his glory. When she was old enough, Solaris was often sent to earth to appear before those devoted to Helios because she was the brightest and best of those who served him.
To all it appeared that she could do no wrong. She had a loving and generous nature and could always be found helping those in need. No one, not even her father, could find a fault in her. However, many faults could be found in her father. In addition to forbidding his daughters to learn how to defend themselves, Curantisos had a lust for priceless treasures. Many whispered about how Curantisos got his hands on such treasures but no one would challenge such a high ranking Curantis. None would go against the lord of the Kokinos clan.
One day, Curantisos got his hands on a collection of ruby jewelry that had once belonged to a clan of Custoss. The jewels had been stolen many years ago from the vaults in the clan house but Curantisos refused to return the jewels. Angered at Curantisos’ refusal to return the jewels, the young Custos lord raided the Kokinos Clan house in heaven.
Against the orders of the Custos lord, Solaris had been taken as a captive and dragged down to hell. Bound, gagged and blindfolded, Solaris suffered through the three day journey. She was sure that her father would come save her. Eventually, her captives reached their clan house and she was unceremoniously dumped on the floor of the audience hall. Though she couldn’t see, Solaris could hear.
She could hear the anger in the Custos’s lord voice and she jumped when she heard the sound of steel biting into flesh. She struggled when she felt herself being picked up but she was no match for a Custos. She was carried, tossed over a shoulder, through the house and eventually plopped down into a bed. The blindfold was removed and Solaris got her first look at Thanos, Lord of the Magda clan.
Thanos could understand why the Custos now bleeding to death on the floor of his audience hall had taken the Curantis. She was stunning. Being an honorable sort of man, and a crafty one, Thanos would use the Curantis to get his jewels back. For two years, Thanos sent many missives to Curantisos Kokinos, offering the return of his daughter in exchange for the Magda Crown jewels.
During those two years, Solaris became friends with Thanos. And an outlet for his annoyance with the women he’d selected to be mother to his heirs. She found amusement when he would rant and rave about the tricks and the ploys those seven women used on him. She also learned that part of his reluctance in getting on with the business of getting heirs was that none of these women were his mate, Satoshi. He needed a heir but the male Custos who’d captured his heart couldn’t provide that.
During her two years as a captive, Solaris only turned to Thanos for comfort one time. When her father finally replied that the jewels were worth more than his daughter, Solaris was angry. She half expected to hear that her father didn’t value her life and wasn’t surprised when he confirmed that he had no feelings for his daughter. It was when a childhood friend, an Curantis to whom she’d been betrothed too, also refused to ransom her back that she fell into despair.
That night, she turned to Thanos for comfort and his attempts to soothe her led to them sleeping together. After that, Solaris just seemed to shut down and Thanos decided to let her go. He returned her to the gates of her family home with an armed escort.
Her family took her back in but not with opened arms. Though she’d only ever slept with Thanos that one time, the family viewed her as a fallen woman. She was regulated to keeping the elderly people of the house company. She was also kept running by her mother and a soon to be sister in law.
When the family went to visit friends and left Solaris behind, she was relieved at having the break from them. She went out to the gardens, a place that she had always loved, and was visited by Helios. She asked her deity why he’d left her down in hell. Helios said that sometimes, destiny was an unexpected path and that she wasn’t done with the Magda clan yet. He reached out and lightly touched Solaris’ abdomen and said that she would always be connected to the Magda clan.
After Helios left, Solaris panicked. Not only was she carrying a bastard child but a hybrid bastard child. She tried to hide the pregnancy for as long as possible but her sister in law caught her being ill one morning. The woman, pleased that she’d found something to pin on her fiancé’s holier-than-thou sister, hauled Solaris before her father. She threw Solaris at Curantisos’ feet and declared for all to her that the woman would soon give birth to a hybrid bastard.
Curantisos tossed his daughter from the house and forbid any to give her shelter. Alone and pregnant, Solaris wandered heaven, earth and hell. One morning, not long after she’d crossed over into hell; Solaris woke up hating the life she carried. That little life was the reason she was barefoot and wandering hell. She even started gathering the herbs that would end that life. She’d been boiling those herbs when Helios appeared before her in a rage. He’d defended her when her father had pleaded with him to rip her wings away. He kicked away the pot of herbs and said that if she went through with ending that life, she would fall. He said that she could give the child away after it had been born but she would bring it into the world. He reminded Solaris that she’d vowed to protect all life when she’d entered into his service.
Solaris had screamed and raged at the god. They eventually got to the part of it that was weighing on Solaris. She was eight months pregnant, alone, and wandering hell. No one would take her in. Helios took her shoulders and turned her towards the road. He said that within a day, she’d be at the Magda stronghold. Solaris took that road and went to the one place that would take her in.
Thanos was waiting for her at the gate and quickly swept her into his suite of rooms. She had the quick impression of another man but Thanos hustled her into a bed. For the last month of her pregnancy, she was pampered. She also befriended Satoshi, Thanos’ mate during that month.
Satoshi, a trained healer, was the one to deliver the child. Solaris named the red-headed boy Ransom but found that she had no real desire to be near the infant. She nursed the boy until he could be weaned and then she took to wandering again. She kept wandering the three realms for 25 years. When she finally decided to go home, she went to Magda clan.
She was welcomed back but wary of the boy she’d left behind. She was somewhat saddened to see that Ransom had become a consort but Satoshi said that Ransom enjoyed his life and was spoiled rotten by everyone, including Thanos.
Solaris settled into her life and formed a loving relationship with both Thanos and Satoshi. She eventually gave Satoshi a son, Redemption, and she took delight in the smart, mischievous boy. She developed friendships with many of the consorts and even had somewhat of a relationship with her first born.
Solaris discovered her spine when Thanos’ heir, Lorcaine, took over the clan. Though Thanos had set things into motion that would protect them, he hadn’t been able to care for everything. While Satoshi had been overwrought at the sight of his mate in a magically induced coma, Solaris took care of the final preparations. She’d alerted Redemption to be ready to take care of his part of the plan. She forced Satoshi into taking the poison that would fake their deaths.
When she woke from the potion, she, along with Satoshi and Thanos’ slumbering body were safely tucked away in the Japanese mountains. For the next five hundred and twenty five years, they lived quietly in the mountains. They slept and ate and cared for Thanos’ body. During those years, another two children have come along. Tranquility, a slightly wild girl, and Revelation, another mischievous boy has made the isolation bearable.
She still grieves for Ransom, knowing that she had to leave him behind and that Redemption had never been able to free him. She’s heard the rumors of Lorcaine being killed but she isn’t about to risk Thanos just to see if some whispered rumors are true.
