GOD TOOLS - These are the items, typically weapons, that are given to any given Deities chosen earthly representative. While many of the Alati have specialized and/or named weapons, the God tools are typically sentient beings crafted in heavenly forges. Only one of the many Alati or Alati hybrids serving any given Deity can wield the the tool of their deity. Additionally, only that Alati, his/her mate(s), and the tool's heir can touch the item. There are few exceptions to this rule; the Oracle may handle any of the tools as she is representative of all deities or if a being is a descendent of the tool's deity. All others would receive an intense electric shock. Some examples of those who hold this exalted position include:
- Darius, holder of Shattersoul, the sword of Hades.
- Rayne is heir to Shattersoul
- Carmine, holder of Talos, the sword of Mars.
- Octavius, holder of Saturn's Scythe, the scythe of Saturn.
- Ruri, holder of Nokori, the katana of Izanami.
- Zahir, holder of Sea Song, the trident of Poseidon and Atlantis.
- Kyros, holder of Excalibur, sword of Eiru and Avalon.
- James Andrew, future holder of Siren Song, the Lyre of Apollo.
- Charis, the Oracle of Haven, is a tool that all the Deities work through. She is classified as both a God Tool and wielder of a God Tool.
GOD TOOL TRIADS - A God Tool Triad is the union of three (or more) people. While the nature of a triad is left up to the participants, they are unions meant to support the holder of a God Tool. Unlike the average Alati, the holder of a God Tool cannot Sleep when s/he grows weary of the world. As they are the earthly representatives of their Deities, these men and women are tasked with governing the Alati devoted to their deity, protecting the deity's interests and performing the tasks and attributes of their deity. These units are made up of the tool holder, one being of strength and one being of compassion. Aside from the tool holder, who must be at least part Alati, the other two/thirds can be any being from any species. The members of these units typically end up bonded on a soul level and, should one die, the others will seek out the rebirth of the soul.
HEIRARCHY OF MODERN ALATI NOBILITY
Head of Family
Head of Clan
Head of Region
Head of Country
Overlord of Continent
In addition to the above list, in ancient history, each Alati would also have to report to the head of his/her house. Outdated since the fall of the great cities, the heads of the five houses have since been remove from the hierarchy.
REINCARNATION AND SOUL MATES - Unless the soul is destroyed, all Alati are capable of reincarnation. The new body may be born Alati or as part of another species. The new body will not remember the memories if the previous life. The only documented cases where a person remembers their past life is when the body is in mortal danger.
Alati are capable of creating soul-linked bonds with their mates that stretch into eternity, often idealized as "soul mates." Every Alati can bond happen with anyone and is often a invisible process. The only ones who know they are in the presence of a possible soul mate are those within a God Tool Triad as the possible mate would be able to handle the tool without harm and the tool would acknowledge them.
THE GODLESS - The Godless are the same species as the Alati but they are not devoted to any Deity. The tribes of the Godless live separately from they God Bound cousins. Some of the tribes frequently antagonize those who live to serve a Deity and seek to have their powers and/or treasures. Certain tribes were responsible for the rifts that caused the break down of the Alati culture and the disappearance of the great cities. Not all of the tribes seek to be enemies with the Deity bound but they don't socialize with them either.
THE GREAT CITIES - The great cities are the legendary locations such as Avalon, Atlantis, El Dorado or Horai Island. These were like the New Yorks, Londons, Milans, and Tokyos of the mortal world and were centers of commerce, society and powers for the Alati world. Atlantis, the greatest of the cities, was the first to fall and the Cities of Gold were the last to vanish. Those cities that fell where locations where turmoil and strife broke down the infrastructure. The cities that vanished did so because people just stopped believing in the pantheons associated with that location. The great cities consist of Avalon, Buyan, Shambhala, Shangri-la, Quivira, Cibola, El Dorado, Atlantis, Lemuria, Mu, Ys, Eden, Cantre’r Gwaelod, Horai Island, and Haven.
The cities of Atlantis and Avalon made their return in 2046 when the ruling God Tools were re-discovered but Haven is considered the new center of the Alati world, having accepted refugees from the destroyed and vanished cities. The regional cultures of the great cities have meshed together in Haven. (Side note regarding the Atlantian Pantheon of Deities. After the fall of Atlantis, the deities diminished in powers and became part of the Greek Pantheons. The God Tools of the Atlantian deities were fused with the tool of the closest Greek Deity. For example, the Trident of Atlantis and Anmis was fused into the Trident of Poseidon. The trident now has two voices though the voice of Atlantis is quiet most of the time)
Atlantis was the first of the great cities to fall with El Dorado, Cibola, Quivira, and the remaining cities of gold were the last the fall. However, in the southern pole, another city was rising to greatness. Located under the Trans-Antarctic Mountain Range, Haven started as a refuge for the survivors of the great disasters.
The founders of this place were survivors of Atlantis who escaped the great sinking by ship. For decades, the small fleet travelled the world but none of the smaller Alati settlements would permit them to stay, fearful that the survivors would bring bad luck to them. They eventually reached Antarctica and a large sea-cave. At first they scrapped a living out of that cavern but, in their isolation, they began to experimental with the powers they’d been given by their deities. Slowly, they burrowed into the mountains.
Today, Haven extends throughout the range and even has locations under the valleys and plains of the frozen continent. Haven prides itself as a place of peace where all are welcome. It is a place where many who seek refuge and healing go. It has also become the center of the Alati cultural from all regions.
Haven is made up of five main districts: Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, and Soul.
- The Earth District is the southern-most district of Haven. While the Earth District is where most of the livestock and grains/vegetables/fruits are grown and harvested, each district has smaller locations for this craft. Typically populated by beings associated with Earth.
- The Water District is the northern-most district of Haven. This district contains the original settlement of Haven, now a deep water harbor and market, as well as a hatchery and the Healer’s Hall. Typically populated by beings associated with water.
- The Fire District is the eastern-most district of Haven. This district contains most of the government offices of Haven. In terms of the modern world, the occupants of this district would the civil engineers of Haven. Typically populated by beings associated with fire.
- The Wind District is the western-most district of Haven. Within this district live the ones who can work the weather of Haven and determine the day-night cycles of this sub-terrain city. Typically populated by beings associated with wind.
- The Soul District is the center-most district of Haven. Informally called the temple district, this is the location where the temples to the deities of the world have been built. It is also the location of the Oracle’s Tower, where the Oracle lives and work and where the heads of the government are located. Typically populated by beings associated with the soul.
Despite the icy surface, Haven maintains a tropic/subtropics climate with a few areas set aside for cooler or warmer temperatures. Most of the large caverns have housing blocks with an open-air concept but there are some dwellings built into the walls of the caverns or branching off from different tunnels connecting the districts. Some of the areas include the following locations:
- Rainforest Cavern: Located between the fire and water districts, this is a largely abandoned cavern where the imported flora has grown wild. There are a few residents of this quarter, mostly healers, their families and any patients who do not require constant supervision.
- The Grotto: Located between the earth and fire districts, the grotto is a former temple/worship area devoted to deities of a sensual love. After the commission of temples in the Soul District, The Grotto was transformed into a reserve-able guest suite. Great for honeymooning Incubi and Succubae.
- The Five Cave: Also located between the Earth and Fire Districts, the fire cave is a cavern covered in flora of an aphrodisiac nature. Lovers often take advantage of its secluded location.
- The North Cave: Located in the water district, this is the home of the twelve surviving members of the original 24 Original Mutari. This is also where the Haven Hunters Council is operated from.
Charis, the Oracle of Haven and the Last Queen of Haven, is the ruler of Haven. She is also considered the head of the Alati world and is the neutral member of the Alati Council. As she sees petitioners from all over the world, most the ruling of Haven has been entrusted to men and women she respects and trusts to lead. Though Haven is meant to be a peaceful place of healing, learning and living, there is crime and violence. Unless the violence rises to the levels that caused the fall of Atlantis, Charis trusts that her appointed guardians can handle the situation.
Charis has vowed that she’ll protect Haven from the fate of Atlantis at the price of her life. After all, she’s a very different woman from the girl who survived the fall of Atlantis.
INFORMATION ABOUT ATLANTIS
Atlantis was, and is still considered, the height of the Alati culture. The Myths of mortals often place the birthplace of mortal life in Africa. The Alati believe that the birthplace of all supernatural life was located at the center island of Atlantis. Strife existed between the original tribes of the Alati about what to do with this mystical place. Some of the tribes, those that would become known as the Godless, thought they should exploit and use this place. Others thought it should be protected and prostrated themselves before the Gods in order to gain the abilities to protect the center of supernatural life.
Gifted with new powers and abilities, these 13 clans were able to protect the island at the center of the Atlantis continent. These clans were able to construct a magical shield that could be raised and lowered at the will of the clans. During the final days of the wars, when Atlantis was crumbling, members of the 13 clans risked their lives to raise the shield around the center island. Their actions were successful but all 13 lost their lives as the island and continent sank beneath the ocean. Those who remaining on protected island would be sent into a deep slumber.
Atlantis would not be found until Zahir Saab found the trident of Poisideon in 2044 AD (around this same time, Excalibur found its way back to the soul of Arthur and the High King returned to Avalon). For two centuries, bits and pieces of Atlantis would be found scattered around the world. At the end of the second century, the protected island would be found with the shield failing. Charis, the last member of the royal family living outside of the shield, would gather members of the 13 clans and use them to not only fix the shield but raise the island and transport it to the location of New Atlantis in the Caribbean. At this time, she would transfer her last connection to Atlantis, her clan's link to the shield, to the new rulers of Atlantis and retreat back to her Haven.
