**note** This thread takes place roughly 20 years after the Opening Eyes thread. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She couldn't believe this. She'd come to this museum in search of her brother. She'd expected to find some dottery oldman who rambled on about paintings, not this. Not a 20 something punk version of her bastard father. And she certainly hadn't expected to be jumped by another 20 something man. Joley glanced around the office she'd been hauled into a gave a nervous little laugh. "I think I should explain."
The man sitting behind the desk, the one she now knew to be her brother Lysander, glared. "Yes, you should explain why you look like my blessed sister even though she remained a lily white virgin until the day she died."
"Well, that would be because I am you sister. Your younger sister, that is. Let me explain before you jump out of your chair and say that it isn't possible. Your father slept with my mother. He got her pregnant, hence my presence here, but he wanted nothing to do with the child. Now Im looking for the rest of the family. You're the first one I've found."
Lysander eyed the woman, not quite believing her stoy. While it was true that his father had been a cheating bastard, the woman's age seemed wrong. Lysander tilted his head and looked at her before grinning. "Exactly how old are you and when were you turned. Unless your mother went ait it with my father in his hopitial bed during his last days on this earth you should look much older or you have been bitten and turned by a vampire."
Joley blinked. He'd just asked her the same question she wanted to ask him. Lysander was supposed to be 20 years old then her but he looked to be in his early twenties. "I could ask you the same question. I was turned 20 years ago on my 20th birthday. How about you, when were you turned? And why is he in here with us?" Joley asked while looking at the man sitting on one of the deep windowsills.
"The first is a fair enough question. I was 24 when I was turned and it is place I don't like to revisit. You second question, however, is a little more personal but I'll answer it. That man is Dominic, my partner. We come as a pair. Now, do you have any other questions for me or is it my turn to play twenty questions?"
Joley blushed as she glanced between the two men. Partners? As in...
Joley leaned forward to adjust her seat in the chair and caught a glimpse of a framed photo on her brother's desk. It was of him and the other man dancing or embracing. Not that she had a problem with same sex relationships but did this mean that she came by it naturally? "No," she said. "I have noother questions. Ask me anything you want."
Joley had a feeling that she'd just sighed her own death sentance when Lysander leaned his elbows on the surface of the desk, narrowed his eyes are her and grinned. She swallowed at that grin. It promised all kinds of uncomfortable things.
"Why now? Why have you decided to hunt down the family now, when most of your immediate siblings have passed on?"
Joley swallowed. Sure, he had to go for the throat in the first question he asked. "Until now I've always had a family with my mother but when she died a few months back I felt the need to find the others."
Lysander tilted back in his chair before glancing at Dominic. "What do you think, Pet, should we trust her? Let her into our lives and our family?" Lysander turned to Joley before Dominic had a chance to answer. "Here's what we are going to do. I'm giving you my card and I want you to call me next week. By then my own research should be done. Does that work for you?"
Joley nodded, took the card and hurried from the fourth floor office. This trip had not been an easy one, she thought as she waited for the bus. She'd asked oneof the guards to fetch Lysander for her. She'd waited for him and stared at a painting. And then she'd suddenly had some man pawing at her. She'd done the natural thing and slapped the man. And then she'd discovered that the man was her brother's partner. Talk about embarressing.
Going over te events of the day, Joley stepped off the bus and started down the sidewalk. All she really wanted was her tub and a glass of wine. Joley looked up from searching for her keys to see a car and a confused but familar looking woman standing in her driveway. "Gemini? What are you doing here?" ------------ Lysander spun around in his desk chair and smiled at Dominic. He'd been coming down the stairs when he saw Dominic hug and then get slapped by that woman. "How's that cheek, Puppy? I still cannot believe that you didn't realize that I wasn't her. Besides the hair, did you not notice the breasts? I do happen to lack those bits of anatomy."
After ducking a thrown box of tissues, Lysander pushed himself out of his chair. "I'll call Dion later and ask her to look into this Joley person. Though I have a feeling that she is telling the truth. My father had a habit of cheating." Lysander said as he sat on the windowsill next to Dominic, leaning against him and placed on of his hands on Dominic's thigh. "I know I cut you off earlier but how do you feel about all of this. She'd also end up meeting your child and the rest of everyone we consider family."

Her flight had been long, and the drive from the airport to her hotel had been confusing. People drove on the wrong side of the road here! Once she'd dropped her luggage at her hotel, Gemini had hauled out the directions she'd printed off back in England that would take her from her hotel to Joley's home. The other woman wasn't expecting her at all and Gemini wasn't sure how she'd take a surprise visit from an old friend but she would find out.
Gemini had always wanted to visit America and thanks to the unfortunate event that she was now unemployed she had the time. When the vet clinic she'd been working at had burned down and the owners decided not to rebuild or reopen the clinic she'd been jipped out of a job. Instead of jumping right back into the job market she used some of the money she had in her savings and bought a plane ticket.
She had just arrived at Joley's home when a bus drove by and stopped a ways down the road. A few people got off the bus, one of them headed down toward the house she was parked in front of. When the woman got closer, Gemini could see that it was Joley and she smiled nervously. When Joley asked what she was doing at her house, Gemini shrugged and answered sheepishly, "I needed a vacation?"
*****
Dominic listened as L grilled the woman who looked so much like him. He listened as the woman answered those questions and provided even more information. When L asked his opinion and then cut him off before he could give it he bristled a bit but held his tongue. This was L's business and he knew the man would ask him for his opinion again later so he wasn't too upset.
When the woman, named Joley he found out from his observations, finally left Lysander's office and he started teasing him, Dominic lobbed a box tissues at him. When finally given the chance, Dominic answered all of L's questions. "First off, from the back I couldn't see the brests of the person I was tackling, and second I have to admit it wasn't the hair I was looking at but the butt... You both have very nice asses by the way." Dominic's playful smirk showed no shame at that admission but it had taken years for him to come to that point.
In response to L's other questions, Dominic's face sobered a bit as he answered in a more serious tone, "As for what to do about Joley, I don't see how it would hurt to let her into our lives. Our family is so strange already that I don't think a long lost vampire sister is going to upset the balance any. Lani won't mind having yet another aunty and so long as Joley doesn't give me any reason to want to kill her I will refrain." Then with a soft chuckle he added, "And her smacking me and leaving a bright red handprint on my face for jumping her and planting a kiss on her cheek is no reason for me to want to kill her... Since she wasn't you after all, I more than deserved it."

L smirked at Dominic. "Thank you for liking my ass. I like yours as well." L leaned against Dominic. He still wasn't sure about this sister person. Three rest of his family, Eli aside, had rejected him for so many reasons. The vampire thing, the bisexual thing, the whole leaving the family to fend for themselves even though he was the oldest thing, the corrupting youth thing. "I wish I was as sure about this as you are, Mr. I came from a small family and have access to one of those large, every body is in your face families."
L glanced at the clock, glad to see that the time was finally late enough for him to leave without making up some explanation. "Come on, Puppy, lets get out of here and go see your former mother-in-law. See if she'll work some of that magic of hers and get a hold of every big of information about Joley for us." L tugged Dominic away from the window and out of the musuem. -----
Joley bounced forward, the stress of the day forgotten, and hugged Gemini. "It is so nice to see a friendly face! I just met my oldest brother today. I don't think he likes me but he, atleast, is a vampire. Joley pulled away from Gemini, grabbed her hand and dragged her into the small, two story house. "Sorry about the mess. I'm redoing some of the rooms." She said as she opened the door to rolls of wallpaper, cans of paint, and a stack of do-it-yourself books.
"Why take a vacation now? This is hardly the best time for a vacation. The weather sucks. and I'm honestly not that much fun." Joley stepped around the piles of home improvement stuff, tossing coat and purse among them. "And I've been completely involved in rehabing this place. I mean, I'm glad that you are here but I can't promise that I will be much fun."

Dominic couldn't help but snicker at L's obvious nervousness and frustration at suddenly having an unknown sister pop into his life. The man was hopeless. Even as he teased Dominic the violet eyed man's smile grew bigger. When he was finally dragged out of his window seat and to the car, Dominic just shook his head and followed.
Once they were in the car, L driving as usual, Dominic rifled in his pocket for his cell phone and dialed Dion's number. His ex-wife's mother had become something of a friend to him so when she picked up the phone and asked bluntly what the hell he wanted, Dominic knew she'd had a rough day. "Sorry to bother you Dion, Lysander has a favor to ask you." At the glare from L for placing the blame on him, Dominic just stuck out his tongue then proceeded to tell Dion L's situation. When he hung up the phone to Dion's muttered "goodbye, see you in a bit," Dominic smirked yet again and told L pleasantly, "She said she'd look into it so long as we picked up dinner on the way since she would be too busy to cook."
*****
Grinning at the obviously happy Joley, and at beng hugged, Gemini had to suppress a laugh as Joley made excuses for her house. Her adopted mother was doing the same thing back home so Gemini was fully aware of how messy a remodel could get. "Don't worry about it Joley," she said softly as she followed the other woman inside.
Once inside, Gemini listened to Joley ramble on about the weather and how busy she'd been and took in a good look at the house. To put it simply, it was huge. She was used to her little rowhouse which was tall and narrow, this place had room to sprawl a bit and it did. After oggling the house for a moment, what Joley had said about finding her oldest brother sunk in and Gemini turned and looked at her curiously. Raising an eyebrow she asked, "You have an older brother who's a vampire too?" Joley's question to Gemini about why she was taking a vacation was completely forgotten...
((ooc: Gemini has a rather one track mind at times so please don't get mad at her for forgetting about Joley's question. And please forgive my use of Dion hehe. I had to write her in to make Dominic make sense...)

"So, what should we pick up for dinner. We could just swing by Applebees and order one of everything to go? That family is odd and strange." L stopped at a red light, tapping his fingers against the steering wheel. "We also have to pick Cade and Lani up from your mother's place."
After stopping at Applebees and ordering a dinner that mounted to a large bill, Lysander continued driving towards Carole's house. "So, Dominic, next week we have the house all to ourselves over the weekend. The kids will be at Saiyuri's house and we have that nice, large house all to our selves. What should we do? I could cook for you, some pasta in a nice red sauce, maybe?" ------------------- "Yeah, apparently Lysander is a vampire as well. Along with his boyfriend, life mate, partner. I'm not sure how to discribe that. Now, Gemini, why are you taking your vacation now?"
Joley led Gemini up the second floor, where the bedrooms and bathrooms were housed. "I've only got the one spare bedroom and it's still decorated the my mom did it up. I'm really sorry about this." Joley opened to the door to reveal a room done up in a cutsey rabbit and bird pattern. Bows abounded in the room. "It's been on my list if things to get to but I've been a bit busy downstairs. Sorry, again."

At L's suggestion for Applebees, Dominic dialed the restaurant and ordered so they could have it ready for them when they arrived. The restaurant was actually quite used to accomodating the Deluge family and wasn't overly surprised when Dominic asked for the "normal Deluge order". Once they had picked up the food, the whole drive to Dion's was torture. Turning to L more than once, Dominic asked pitifully, "Can I have a cheese stick?" He could smell the fried mozzerrella sticks in the bag on his lap and they were toying with his stomach.
Pulling into Dion's driveway, Dominic sighed and answered his own question, "Guess I better save these and share huh?" Then he gathered up an armload of food and headed to the door. He knew L was behind him armed with just as many bags of food. Ringing the doorbell with his pinky finger, Dominic waited... And waited.... And waited. When nobody seemed to be coming, Dominic kicked the door hard enough to be heard over whatever music was likely blaring inside but not hard enough to do any damage.
Finally the door was thrown open and above the bags of food, Dominic was pleased to see the smiling face of his daughter. "Hey sweetheart, give us a hand with these wouldja?" Laughing at her biological father and his lover's predicament, Lani stepped out onto the front porch and grabbed a few bags from each of them. As the trio made their way inside the big house and into the kitchen, Lani asked, "So how did Gramma Dion bribe you guys into getting dinner? I know she's been grumpy today but she was about to send me out for groceries for dinner when you called." Setting her bags down on the counter Lani waited only long enough for Dominic and L to do the same before she gave both men tight hugs and kisses on their cheeks. "I've missed you two sooo much," she said as she felt Dominic come up behind her and give both her and L a hug.
*****
"Oh!" Gemini exclaimed as Joley brought her earlier question back to her wayward attention. "I'm taking a vacation now because the clinic isn't reopening." She left it at that, and walked into the spare bedroom. She didn't cringe at the decor exactly but she did have to repress a laugh. Instead of commenting on the bunnies, birds and bows, Gemini just said, "Remodeling is a process. Starting in rooms you use all the time makes the most sense."

Lysander attached himself to Lani. Before Cade, he'd thought that Lani would be his only chance to have a child. While the girl may not have been his biological child, she was still his little flutterby. "I'm having her do some background checking on a peson and said I'd pick up dinner. Call the horde, Lani."
Lysander toed off his shoes and glanced around. The pack of Custoss, the title that everyone called Saiyuri's children, plus rowan, was sprawled around the living room for one last summer get together before everyone went their own ways for the year. His own son was probably at home, sloched in the family room, surrounded by bags of junk food and the TV.
Lysander grinned at the kids, ruffled Lani's hair and then wandered into the kitchen, where he took over the final dinner prepreations. Darius often said that the only reason Dominic was still alive was because Lysander was more then competent in the kitchen.
After dinner was finished, Lysander followed Dion up to her office and asked for what she knew at the moment. He didn't say anything until he and Dominic were home. "Her story checks out," he said when they were sitting in their own private sitting room, "My father had an affair, got the woman pregnant, and wanted nothing to do with the child. Sounds like my father. So, now the only question is where do I go from here?"
Lysander sat next to Dominic on the overstuffed couch and leaned against him. "Got any advice for me?"
***
Joley scratched the back of her head and smiled Gemini. "Yeah, but you have to wonder what my mother was thinking when she thought this idea up." Joley sat down on the bed and looked at her friend. "So the clinic isn't reopening? Why? What about your dogs? I've got the room if you want to bring them over. I know how you feel about leaving your precious babies in places where you are not."

Lani snickered as L told her to call the horde, her pack of siblings, cousins and an uncle all came running when she did. Dinner was an event as usual and one she would miss. She would be going back to England the next day to get ready for her next year at University and she felt like she hadn't spent nearly as much time with her family as she'd wanted to. The only person missing from the horde of her siblings and cousins was her older step-brother Gareth. He'd taken a job out of the state and hadn't been able to make it home. Although, Lani suspected it wasn't because he couldn't but because he didn't want to...
After dinner and before they left, Lani clung to both her father and his lover. They of all the people at her grandmother's house that night, were the ones she'd spent the least amount of time with. If L hadn't seemed so distracted, and because he was Dominic was too, she would have asked if she could come stay her last night at their house. Instead, she watched and waved as they eventually drove off back to their own house.
*****
Once they'd gotten home, Dominic listened to L as he related the story that Dion had told him about this Joley woman. When Lysander asked him if he had any advice, Dominic answered, "Get to know her. Its not her fault that your father wanted nothing to do with her and she might be feeling alone. I don't think she would have come to you if she didn't want to get to know you."
*****
Gemini was still somewhat distracted, her eyes taking in Joley's mother's interesting taste in decorating. The moment that Joley basically offered to let her bring her dogs over from England her eyes widened and she asked, "Really? You really don't mind two great danes running rampant in your house and back yard?" How had she gotten so lucky? She honestly wasn't sure how long she planned on visiting Joley but having the dogs with her for even a short amount of time would be much better than leaving them at the kennel she was boarding them at while she was gone.

(mucking about with the timeline...)
L sat behind his desk at the museum, pressing his fingers against his temples and stared at the paper in front of him. Dominic sat over ont he windowseat, as he often did on his days off from the Inn when L had to work, watching the people below the grand building rushing by and sketching. It was a sort of quiet togetherness that he'd always wanted. L took another glance down at the paper and sighed. Joley's phone number. Did he really want to contact this woman who was his half sister.
She'd only stopped by a few days ago and, after a nervous break-down which resulted in a long talk with Dion (who was the resident expert when it came to estranged family members popping up), he'd decided to, at the very least, get to know the woman. He'd already told Eli, who'd told the rest of the family and his living siblings had violently denied that their sainted father would do anything of the sort.
"Am I really going to do this?" he asked himself while punching the numbers into his phone. Considering that the model was cordless, L stood and wandered over to Dominic, leaning against the windowseat's framework and watching over the man's shoulder. When he got the woman's answering machine, He sighed with relief. He quickly rattled off his messege, which involved inviting the woman over for brunch, along with the address and directions to the house, and hung up.
L flopped onto the free side of the windowseat, tangling his legs with Dominic's. "There, all done. Now I just have to see if I can't pawn Cade off on your ex-wife for the afternoon. She has a large lawn that needs to be mown, right? The boy's good at manual labor. Keeps him out of trouble." Amazed at his son's annoying tendancy to behave just like him, L often thought of ways to keep the teen out of trouble.
***
Joley stared down at the machine and it's message. Well, there went the last few days worth of stress but that leaving invited in a newer sort of stress. The invite to brunch hadn't been much of a invite, more like a demand from a very confused man. She turned to Gemini. "Want to come with me?"
They been out shopping for Gemini's danes, seeing as how none of their stuff could be shipped over till later. Between them, they had just enough to cover the transport of the animals. "Please tell me you'll come with me?" Joley pleaded.

Dominic was rather wrapped up in his people watching and sketching, but even so he heard as L left the message for Joley inviting her to brunch. Since the woman wasn't his sister, and he wouldn't be the one cooking, Dominic wasn't really overly stressed but he knew that L was. He had been a walking ball of nerves for the past few days and when he was, both Dominic and Cade's stomachs suffered. When Lysander got stressed, his cooking got overly creative or forgotten so weird ingredients hand a tendancy to wind up in the meals or they would get a little scorched...
When L sat down on the windowseat with him, Dominic set aside his sketchbook and looked into his lover's worried eyes. As L talked about pawing Cade off on Saiyuri, Dominic got up off of the window seat and walked over to L's side and wiggled in behind him. While proceeding to work his fingers into L's shoulders and neck, Dominic said quietly, "Saiyuri's lawn is tended by three other strapping young men L, somehow I don't think Cade's services are required." Then, after a moment of silence from the other man, Dominic added, "Of course, Cade likes going to Darius' home and its rather hard for him to get into too much trouble there. I think the other kids are going there this weekend too so we can send him with them."
*****
Gemini was busy unpacking the bags from the shopping trip to the local pet stores while Joley listened to the messages on her machine. She actually was in the middle of putting the mountain of sqeaky toys in a basket when Joley asked if she wanted to go with her to the brunch she'd been invited to by her brother. With a smile, Gemini nodded and answered, "Of course. And since I'll be with you and that's the day the pups get in, you'll have a perfectly good excuse to leave early if things get too uncomfortable." Dumping the last toy in the basket, Gemini walked over to Joley and slipped an arm around her shoulder, squeezing it gently. "Besides, I wouldn't miss watching you squirm for anything." She giggled then wandered back over to put together the big plastic food bin.

L stood in his kitchen, glancing around at his counters. He'd already cleaned up the mess he'd created. The food that needed to be served warm was in the warming oven and the cold plates were in the fridge. Now all he had to do was wait for Joley and her friend to show up. When Dominic came into the kitchen, free from the Inn for the day, and wrapped his arms around Lysander's waist, L peered over his shoulder at the man. "Hey, is the table out on the porch?"
The day was sunny enough, and warm enough, to eat outside. L took a moment to kiss Dominic, turning around in his arms to face the man. "Thank you for being here."
Joley stared up at the house. She'd gotten out of her little junker car and stared at the shiney green mustang in the driveway. She wondered which man drove the car. She climbed the steps, Gemini right behind her. She found her brother on the porch, setting a rectangle shaped table with china plates. He was barefoot.
"Good morning, Lysander. I brought a fruit plate."
Lysander looked at the plastic covered plate filled with fruit. "That's what I forgot to do." He took the plate fromJoley and set it on the table. Would you like to come inside. I've got the making of mimosas waiting the kitchen." He lead the duo through the open floorplan on the first floor. Dominic was in the kitchen, already started on the mimosas. "Ladies, this is Dominic. Dominic, you remember Joley and, I'm sorry I didn't quiet get your name."

He'd gotten to sleep in a bit thanks to his day off and when Dominic made his way upstairs to the kitchen, he was greated by smells of Lysander's breakfast for his sister. "Mmm, smells good lover-mine," he practically purred as he sidled up behind L and slipped his arms around the older vampire's waist.
When L asked him if the table was out on the porch, Dominic nipped L's shoulder and answered, "Its not yet but it will only take me a moment to set it up." With the kiss and the thanks, Dominic just smiled and placed a happy little peck on his lover's forehead and waltzed out to the porch to get the table out of the shed.
*****
She was a bouncing, giddy ball of nerves. Luckily for Gemini it had nothing to do with the people she and Joley were going to go visit. Her puppies were flying in from England today and she was very anxious to have them in her life again. Of course, her giddiness probably wasn't helping Joley any and she felt bad about that. She just couldn't help herself though.
Once they arrived at their destination, Gemini couldn't help but stare in awe. The house, named the "Care-Taker's Cottage" by the sign on the driveway leading from the one for the Inn, was a serious understatement. This house was huge! Not to mention gorgeously designed. She couldn't help but gawk as Joley put her car in park and they climbed out of it and walked up the driveway.
Once they reached the top of the stairs, Gemini got a good look at Joley's brother and she did a double take. The two of them looked very much alike and after the story Joley had told her about meeting the man's lover, Gemini could see why the poor other guy had been confused if all he'd seen was from the back.
Dominic heard the ladies arrive, and he took out the glasses for the mimosas and set them gently on the black granite counter. Just as he set the last glass down, the trio entered and Dominic smiled warmly. When Lysander started on introductions, Dominic nodded to Joley as his hands were now busy making the drinks.
When Lysander indicated he didn't know who she was, Gemini elbowed Joley playfully, and held out her hand to L. "I'm Gemini, Joley's friend from England here visiting indefinately." And that indefinate nature of her visit was precisely why her dogs were being flown out to her. Oh great, now her dogs were on her mind again... Why did she have to have such a one track mind sometimes?

Lysander loaded up a large tray with the food he'd prepared for brunch. Though he'd never made his hobby into a profitable career, cooking relaxed him. Almost as well as Dominic did. And now he knew what Dominic most have felt like when Larkin had popped up. Of course a sister was different from offspring. Larkin had been Dominic's own fault when he was a young man. Joley meant that his sainted father hadn't followed what he preached.
In many ways Lysander was suddenly very glad that he was estranged from his family. The only connection he had with them was his contact with Eli and that was because the young man refused to leave him alone. Hefting the tray and balancing it on his shoulder, Lysander headed for the door. While he walked, he imagined the response Joley would have gotten from their siblings. Yelling and screaming and denials that Papa could do such a thing. His own reception to the woman may had been harsh but it was out of confusion and shock.
He paused at the front door, recalling the argument he'd had with his father before he'd left for Oxford and the things his father had called him when the family had found about that men held as much attraction for him as women. Honestly, there was a small part of him that wanted to take Joley and introduce her to the rest of them. Kind of a sucker punch to the face that their precious father wasn't as perfect as they thought.
Lysander shouldered open the door and carried the tray to the table. "Has Dominic been entertaining you with horror stories from the inn," he asked while setting out dishes. After fixing the drinks, Dominic had herded the women out the porch and kept them entertained while Lysander put the finishing touches on brunch. Dominic was good at keeping complete strangers entertained but it came naturally to him. After setting the tray aside, Lysander sat in his own chair, took Dominic's hand in his and smiled at his baby sister. "So, ladies, what are your plans for today?"
***
Joley sat back in her chair and watched as her brother and Gemini compared notes on the best places to eat in London. She watched as Lysander handed Dominic the pepper for his eggs without stopping his debate with Gemini about the merits of some hole in the wall pub. There was such an easy affection between the two men. Earlier, she'd learned that they'd been together for 20 years. Joley couldn't imagine being with the same person for two decades but, at the same time, she wanted it. She knew that she'd seriously messed up her past and was hoping for a new start here in Cedar Valley.
They talked for a little longer but when the alarm on Gemini's phone went off they made their excuses to leave. They had to go to the airport to get Gemini's dogs. While Gemini was busy running to the car, Joley said good bue to her brother and made arrangements to meet later in the week. She laughed when she heard Gemini yelling at her to get her ass in gear.
Later, once they were home, Joley sat in the attic, half-heartedly going through a box of all papers. Outside, she could hear Gemini talking to her dogs as she introduced them to the backyard. There was no fence surrounding the yard but they'd gotten some sturdy tie-out cables and there was a large tree close to the back door. Gemini was showing the two just how far they could go. Joley sighed and propped her chin up on her fist. She'd wanted a new start with a clean slate but Gemini was something from her old life that she still wanted.
