To avoid being deafened by her screaming room mate, Archer was holding her cell phone out at arm's reach. When there was a pause in the screaming she took her chance and screamed back, "The room wouldn't smell like burnt popcorn again if you would just leave the power level of the microwave where I put it! Open a window if it bothers you that much, its a beautiful day outside!"
Only as she punched the off button to her phone and she was shushed by the gaggle of librarians did Archer realize she had reached the library. Blushing and smiling sheepishly, Archer hurried past the desk and over to the first row of books. Once there though she realized she had absolutely no idea where she needed to go.
Archer may have been a drama major and a creative writing minor but she still had required classes she had to take. First term she had taken strictly fun classes to help eas the transition of both the moving across country and the whole high school to college thing. This term however, she had an Ancient History class. While she found the class really interesting she hated her professor for assigning a four page essay the second week of the term.
Still feeling rather foolish for her loud entrance, Archer made her way back over to the help desk. Oblivious of the few shavings of sawdust in her hair and on her faded paint spattered overalls she approached the least librarian looking person at the desk in hopes he wouldn't be mad at her. In a soft, more library appropriate tone, Archer asked the man, "Can you tell me where the Ancient History secion is?" She wasn't sure if there even was such a section but it was worth a try.

Chester grinned at the student standing on the other side of the circulation desk. He just loved it when the younger looking students asked him for directions. To areas where books were kept in collections. It really was unfortunate that the books were arranged by either reference or alphabetically and the student had to search out the books he or she wanted before finding them. The books may have all been groped together by a broad subject, such as history, but it would take a student days to work through the stacks to find just the right book. And this student was special. She'd just walked into the library, screaming into her cell phone.
Chester looked the girl up and down and decided that she was one of those people meant for flamboyance and the stage. She had mismatched hair with a sprinkling of sawdust in it. Her clothing was paint splattered in many shades. Quite possibly not a history major. She must have been looking for information for one of her required non-major courses. "Of course I can tell you where the Ancient History section is."
Chester tapped the counter in order to draw the girl's attention to the map of the library trapped under a panel of class. "Here's what you do. You go over to the other building and up to the fourth floor. Once you get there, take a left and go all the way down to the large room filled with books. Go all the way back and you should be there." Chester used a finger to illustrate his point and smiled at the girl.
After she wandered off in search on her books, Chester grinned and sat back down at the chair behind the circulation desk. He heard some giggling behind him and grinned. The other ladies were giggling at him. The older women of the library seemed to appricated it when he taught the freshman and other non-library native students a lession. Chester spun around in his chair and grinned at them. "Thank you, Thank you. Now, Ladies, I'm going to go lose myself in the reference stacks before she figures it out and comes for my head." Chester grinned and stood. He took hold of one of the many carts filled with reference books and left the area to get lost before the girl returned.
Chester rounded the corner dragging the cart with him and waved to one of the many natives. He knew the girl would eventually figure out that he'd sent her on a wild goose chase and he intended to be far away when she stomped back to the circulation desk. From the way she was screaming at the person on the other end of her phone conversation, this was not one lady to get pissed off. Chester snickered as he buried himself in the back of the stacks and started to re-shelve the obscure titles of many reference books. He so enjoyed tomenting the new students.

Archer was repeating the man's instructions over and over in her head as she wandered into the second building that made up the library. After crossing the sky bridge she made her way to the fourth floor and to the area the man had told her to go. When she got there it didn't take her long to realize that while there certainly were a lot of books in that room none of them would be books considered to be ancient history.
Clenching her fists instead of growling, Archer quickly headed back down to the sky bridge and made her way across back to the other building of the library. She knew she had been an idiot yelling in the library like she had, she really had quite a respect for libraries, but she hadn't meant to. With Holly screaming at her about the popcorn for the umpteenth time, Archer had just sorta lost it. She knew she couldn't cook -anything- and she had warned Holly that at the beginning of the year, the girl had absolutely no right to bitch at her when she'd been given fair warning.
Once back in the building she had started out in, Archer headed straight for the desk and hissed (unknown to her) when she saw the guy was not at the desk. So he'd pointed her in the wrong direction and then ran away. Giving a grumpy, "hmph," Archer sniffed the air as imperceptibly as possible, it didn't take her long to catch his scent wandering off towards the back of the library. He had a very clean scent, unlike most college boys, and he was very easy to follow.
Archer thought she had nearly caught the guy when she saw him spot her and slip out of view. Giving a triumphant, "HA!" she was off after him. "Hey! I know you tried to get me lost on purpose!" She said as loudly as she dared followed by, "Least you could have done was stick around to own up to it! Quite a trick getting a poor frazzled freshman lost. If you had any idea the day I've had you might have been a bit more nice even though I yelled in your library." After that, Archer followed the man in silence just letting her nose and the slightest sounds lead her to her 'prey'.

Chester cringed. The girl had found him all the way in the back of the stacks. He twitched when he heard her yelling and Pax grumbled about how everytime Chester ran into a pretty lady, he messed it up by having the girl wanting to skin him alive. Chester abandoned his carts and headed away from the girl. He was really in no mood for dealing with tempermental freshman when his application to the university's graduate school was still pending. He stopped when he was a few stacks away and yelped when the girl rounded the corner. How in the hell was she still following him? Chester had long since learned how to walk quietly, even in the library, and he knew that he hadn't bumped anything. "Well, if you would have taken the time to get to know the library and how it works, you wouldn't have needed my help."
Chester groaned internally and called himself an idiot. He scampered off again as the girl advanced. After leading her on a merry chase through most of the main reference floor, Chester, when he was a few stacks ahead of her, managed his favorite thing to do.
He scambled up one of the shelving units, using the shelves as hand and foot holds until he was up on the top of the unit. The maintance staff had long since installed little 'bridges' for him to use while scouting out the top of the shelves for the library ladies and he moved faster when up there.
Chester grinned down as the girl came into view and set off across the shelves. Had the girl been a were-cougar, the concentration of his scent in that area would get her confused long enough to give him a head start. As the streaked head wandered up and down the few aisle surrounding the one he was looking down in on, Chester bounded off in one direction.
After a few dozen shelves, and more then a few stares, Chester clambered down to the shelve and, thinking that he'd lost the girl, headed back for his cart of books. The head librarian, no matter how much she liked him, would probably rip him up one side and down the other for leaving the books unshelved.

Now where in the hell had that brat gotten to, Archer couldn't help but wonder as she made her way down one of the aisles for the third time. She had about given up when she heard a squeak from one of the wheels on what she figured was the cart of books the guy had been working on shelving before she'd caught sight of him. This time she didn't vocalize her triumph but inside, Zephyr her werecougar side, was practically squirming with delight. The hunt, no matter what it was for, always got the cougar riled up and playful.
Figuring that he had already put her out of his mind, it was fairly easy for Archer to stalk up behind the man. He didn't even look back until one idiotic fellow freshman nearly ran into her while his nose was buried in a book and she gave a squeak as she got out of his way. Luckily, she got behind one of the shelves of books before the man spotted her.
Once she had finished glaring at the idiotic student who had tried to run her down, Archer was back on the man's trail and before there was a chance for anything else to give her away she tapped him on the shoulder. When he turned around she had to fight hard not to laugh at the confused look on his face. Instead of laughing she said quietly, "I have a list of books I need help finding. I didn't get to know the library last term because I just moved here from Indiana and I took some easy classes to save my sanity." Then more to herself than to him, Archer added with a soft laugh, " What little sanity us drama students have anyway..." Clearing her throat she concluded, "If you'd be so kind as to show me this time, I promise I will try and learn the library before my next paper okay?" Maybe, just maybe, the man would take her words as a peace offering and actually take her to the books that were listed on the sheet of paper she was holding out to him.

Chester cursed as the girl shoved a piece of paper in his face. He'd thought he'd lost her for good. He glared at his squeaky cart and wished it the depths of hell. "oh, alright, I'll help you just this once. And you know the library gives free tours of the place." Dragging his cart behind him, Chester led the way to one of the computer stations. He called up the library's search engine and typed in the titles. Once he'd had jotted down the call numbers, Chester motioned for the girl to follow him. "History books are up on the third floor. Follow me."
Chester returned his cart to the front desk and ignored his fellow co-workers exchanging money. He knew the ladies betted on if a lost freshman would get a hold of him or not. He just decided not to pay attention to the action. As he led the girl up a flight of stairs, he looked back over his shoulder. "By the way, what's your name?"
Chester led the girl to the correct section of the third floor, quickly went through the stacks and pulled the books. He piled them into her arms and patted her shoulder. "There's your books. Enjoy."

Making a mental note of where the man said the history books were located, as she would likely need to know that again before the term was over, Archer followed him eagerly as he led her up a flight of stairs to the third floor in the building they were already in. She resisted the urge to grumble as she followed him, after all the had sent her over to the second building when the books were right in this one!
When the man, part way up the stairs, turned and looked over his shoulder and asked her what her name was, Archer quirked an eyebrow as she considered whether to give it to him or not. After a moment, Zephyr convinced Archer that the man wouldn't misuse her name she answered him, "Don't laugh, my parents wanted a boy and when I wasn't they still gave me the name they had picked out. My name is Archer." While Archer was really rather fond of her name, it was deffinately unique for a girl to have, most people just thought it was a silly nickname unless she explained up front how she had gotten it. Even then, half the people she told didn't believe her. When the man turned and finished going up the stairs, Archer gathered he was one of the ones that didn't believe her.
Once on the third floor, Archer followed the man to a section of books clearly labeled as history books and seh watched as he went through the different shelves pulling the correct books for her. As he gathered the books he piled them in her arms and when he was done he patted her shoulder and told her to enjoy.
Confused and frustrated by him, Archer set her books down carefully on a study table and ran after the man before he could go back downstairs. Running until she was able to gently grab his shoulder, Archer hurried to catch up the rest of the way to him. Once she was even with him, Archer said softly, "I really am sorry for earlier, sorry for the cell phone thing." Then, realizing she had given him her name but she hadn't gotten his, Archer asked just as softly, "What's your name by the way? I told you mine after all." This last big was said with a smile.

Chester supressed the urge to groan as Archer caught up with him once again. All he really wanted to do by now as go back to book carts and get lost. With new students admitted to the university every quarter, he was constantly getting annoyed by dunces, people who throught they were too cool for library tours, and those people like Archer who were swimming around in their own reality. He turned on the stairs and looked at Archer.
"I'm Chester...and no jokes about snack food. And just remember to avoid talking on the cell phone in the library. In fact, no to be rude, silence before you set a foot inside the doors."
Chester nodded to Archer and hopped down the stairs. Once he was back on the main level of the library, he went back to his desk, ignored the women who were teasing him about his new "girlfriend," and sat down behind the front portion of the circulation desk. When one of his fellow student workers giggled at him, he tossed a eraser at her. "Hush you or I'll sic the next freshman on you."

Archer's eyebrow quirked when Chester finally told her his name and not to make any jokes about snack food. She had a sneaky feeling that she knew exactly what he meant by that too, she had a bag of cheetos in her book bag. When he told her to silence her cell phone before even coming in the library, Archer smiled sheepishly and said, "I'll try to remember." After that, Chester took off down the stairs back to the main floor. Archer watched him go for a while and then turned and made her way back to the pile of books that was waiting for her.
~~~~~
Two hours later, Archer looked up from one of the passages in one of the history books she had sprawled out all over the table. She noticed the clock and gave a squeak of surprise at seeing how much time had passed. She'd only meant to browse through the books and find the ones that would help her the most for her report but somehow, not too surprisingly, she had gotten sucked into them. Only then did she realize that she had monopolized one whole study table and she was getting glares from students crammed into other ones. Today was just not her day to be a people pleaser.
Gathering up the books that she thought would help her most into a pile, Archer put away the others she wouldn't use. Once she had put away the extra books, Archer picked up her much smaller pile and headed down the stairs to the main floor. She tripped once on a pencil that somebody had dropped, it rolled when she stepped on it, but even though she banged up her knee pretty badly, she hadn't dropped the books.
She was still limping slightly and mumbling about idiots leaving pencils on the stairs when she reached the circulation desk and she was glad to see Chester sitting there. She had dreaded having to face one of the other librarians, they likely would have skinned her alive. For some reason, most people never believed it possible that a drama major actually would live in a library if it was allowed. If only they could see her piles and piles of books in her dorm room...
Placing her selections on the counter carefully, Archer smiled at Chester and said, "Thanks for your help earlier." Then doing something utterly silly, she snagged a piece of scratch paper from her pocket and one of the pens off the counter she scribbled something on it before handing it to Chester. Cheekily she said, "And that is my cell number so that if you see me come in here you can call it and make sure its silenced."
Chester looked away from his textbook when a stack of books thudded on the counter. He was momentarily confused as he went from a selections of reading for one his minor classes to having to deal with people. He stood up and grinned when he noticed Archer standing on the otherside of the counter. "No problem about the help earlier. It's my job after all."
Chester looked through the stack of books, just to see which ones she had. "I recognize those books. Professor Cassill? Student ID please?" When he got a peice of paper inside of a student id, Chester blinked. It took him a minute to process what Archer had said when when it did finally compute, he smiled. "I'll be sure to do that next time you wander in here."
While he waited for Archer to produce her student ID, Chester pulled out his wallet from the backpocket of his pants and stuffed the phone number into the bill fold. He dropped the square of leather onto the counter and took the ID when she handed it over. After scanning it into the computer and handing it back, Chester scanned the books through. "Okay, Miss Archer, these are due back in three weeks." He pushed the books across the counter towards her and smiled. "Have a nice time writing that paper. Oh, a world of advice. If you do have Cassill, you should be warned that he favors in-depth essay questions and is a stickler for spelling."
The first thought that popped into Archer's mind when Chester grinned at her was, "Damn he's cute when he smiles!" Then logic took over and she actually took in the way he was dressed and the manner in which he handled himself and she came to the conclusion he was likely gay. Undisturbed in the least, she listened to him talk and when he asked if she had Professor Cassill she nodded though he didn't seem to notice.
The more Chester smiled at her the more she smiled back and the more smitten she became. Even if he was gay he was still nice to look at and not at all mean when she wasn't doing something stupid.
Archer was about to gather up her books, her student ID and leave when Chester gave her some pointers on her professor. When Chester mentioned that her professor favored essays Archer's face screwed up like she'd sucked on a lemon and she grumbled, "I loathe essays." Once her book bag was loaded up, Archer smiled again at Chester and said, "Thanks, I'll remember that. See you later!" Then she turned and practically bounded out of the library. If she hurried she might be able to get a couple more hours in at the workshop before the drama instructor had to shoo everybody out for the night.
~~~~~
Archer was nursing a sore sore and swollen wrist as she walked up the stairs to her dorm room that night. She had been holding something for one of the other drama students to hammer and just as the student had swung a fire alarm had gone off and needless to say, the student jumped and the hammer missed the nail. Archer had been rushed to the student health center, only to find it closed, and then to the ER where they had told her she had a hairline fracture on one of the bones in her wrist. They had given her pain killers, a splint, and had told her she was not allowed to work in the set workshop for 6 weeks. Or do anything else more intensive than lifting a book or a pencil for that matter.
What they didn't know about Archer was that she was a were-cougar and all it would take would be a few shifts and the worst of the damage from the fracture would be gone. She'd be back in the workshop in a few weeks. Or she would be if she could convince her professor that the ER had been wrong and that her wrist was just really bruised.
Until then she'd just have to spend a lot of time in the library studying and reading and just in general trying to talk to Chester. She needed friends out here, she only knew other drama students at this point, and even though he was an upperclassman he might wind up being friendly enough. She could only hope.
~~~~~
Archer had been downright pleased to find out that her whole drama class would be making a trip to the library the next morning. It seemed that they were all to do a report on the history of set making and design. Now being quite familiar with where the history section was, Archer felt compelled to search out Chester and catch up with the class later.
Having not had a chance to Shift yet, Archer's wrist was still bruised and swollen and in its splint when she finally found Chester pushing around his no longer squeaky book cart. She walked up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder with her good hand. When he turned around Archer was beaming at him. With amusement clear in her tone Archer said softly, "Just thought I'd warn you to stay away from the History section for the next hour or so. My whole set design class has descended on it."
Chester jumped when Archer tapped his shoulder. He whirled around, one hand clutching his chest. "Geeze, don't do that, will ya. Nearly gave me a heartattack." He shook his head at the girl and then groaned at what she said. "Thiery's class is here already? Can't believe I drew the short straw. Come on, missy, If I have to up there, so do you." As he steered his cart through the aisle he looked back at Archer. "I get to lead your set design class in the library treasure hunt, for their books that is. A considering that this is a freshman class, it shall be entertaining."
After depositing his cart, Chester bounded up the stairs to the third floor of the library and glared at the students milling around. He cast a look back at Archer. "You get to join in so that you can work on your library database searching skills."
After Thiery had herded his students around the computer stations in their assigned reporting groups. Chester grinned at them. "All right, children, you're hear to learn about set design and other various aspects thereof. This entire floor is loaded with books relevant to each topic, except there is no section labeled set design and other various aspects thereof. Now, pay attention because I'm not going to help you."
Chester grinned at the collective groan and led the class through the process of keyworld searchs before he turned them loose on the computers. As the students clacked away on the keyboards or, in the case of the ones who'd already learned to naviagte the library's system, scuttled off to find their books. Chester leaned against a wall and looked over at Archer. "Hey, Thiery," he said without taking his eyes off the girl," I bet you twenty bucks atleast four end up confused and what happened to Archer's arm?"
***
Thiery watched as his class got to work. "Anything less then four and you watch the twins for a night. and some idiot pulled a fire alarm. A hammer came down on the girl's wrist. It'll be a couple of weeks in healing. Why do you want to know? Ya sweet on her or something."
***
Chester rolled his eyes. "No one says "sweet on her" anymore, Thiery. And no, I'm not. She was in here yesterday, working on another paper and I helped her out a bit. See ya next wednesday, right?"
Chester pushed off the wall without waiting for Chester to reply and headed over to Archer's computer station. "Hows it going? Need any help?" he said as he came up behind her and bent over to rest one hand on the desk's surface. Chester naturally glared at the girl next to Archer rwith the hopelessly lost expression on her face when she turned to him with pleading eyes when she turned to look at her. "I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to Archer. Is your name Archer? I don't think so."
Chester crouched down next to Archer and waited for an answer.
ooc: pathetic I know but there she is for now =) I may post more to her later
Archer hadn't heard Chester asking Thiery about her, nor had she heard him approach her. Only when the upperclassman laid a hand on the desk of her workstation did Archer turn her attention to him. Seeing Chester staring down at her, and then glare at the poor confused girl sitting next to her, Archer couldn't help but smile. Chester really was quite something.
When he finally turned his attention back to her, Archer gave a little shrug and answered in a library appropriate tone, "Aside from having my wrist in a brace I think I've got this handled, typing is a little awkward though." Then with a laugh she tried typing with only minimal success.
Chester grinned and scooted over until he stood behind the chair she was perched on. He glared at her groupmates until they backed off and headed towards the stations that were opening up. He leaned over until his chin rested on her shoulder and his arms circled around her body so that he could do the typing. "Okay, you have do to the majority of the work but I'll do the typing. Can't have you stressing that wrist after all."
Once Archer had compiled a possible list of books and gone off on her own to search them out, Chester went back to his position against the wall and grinned at Thiery. "I feel good about myself. I've scared several freshmen within twenty minutes. You should bring your freshman classes by more often."
Thiery looked at the younger man and then down the aisle that Archer had disappeared into. "You are sweet on that girl. You just broke your own personal code of not helping helpless freshman unless utterly forced."
Chester rolled his eyes. "It can happen. And I'm not sweet on the girl. She's nice, doesn't take no for an answer and actually hunted me down because of the wild goose chase I sent her on the other day. And she looks good, but that doesn't mean that I'm sweet on her."
Thiery looked at the young man. "yeah, Chester, whatever you say."
When Chester leaned his chin on Archer's shoulder and slipped his arms around her, Archer had to fight down the squeak of surprise that tried to escape her. Gay he may be but gods did his arms feel good! Not to mention whatever soap he used smelled wonderful. The longer he stayed leaned over her, the harder it was for Archer to keep her cougar under control. Zephyr was close enough to the surface that Archer was extremely glad Chester was looking at the computer monitor, when the light in the library suddenly seemed a whole lot brighter Archer knew her eyes had shifted.
It wasn't long after that that Chester left her to find her books and once she was out of his sight she let her body give a little shiver. He was human and he was gay, how on earth could he affect her like that?
Once she was sure that Zephyr was under control, not to mention herself, Archer made her way back to the rest of the group. As she walked past her professor and Chester, Archer looked resolutely towards the other students.
Theiry glanced at Archer as she walked past and then he looked at Chester. Boy, was that young man stupid. That girl was more then human. Then again, Chester was still young and maybe he hadn't honed the part of his genetic makeup that would recognize another of his kind.
Theiry slid his back along the wall and elbowed Chester. "If you are not liking that girl on more then a friendly level, why are you defending yourself. Why even help her? You've told me countless times that a freshman is a freshman and no matter how friendly or good-looking they are, you ignore them unless they are bleeding all over your books?"
Chester scowled at Theiry and then snickered as a group of two students wandered past him, looking nervous. "I told you that it is because I respect her. She actually hunted me down after that goose chase. Most freshman give up and ask one of the others. And by the way, I'm up to five confused students...they are just to scared to ask me. Excuse me," he said before he pushed away from the wall and wandered off.
Theiry shook his head as Chester followed Archer's direction and lost himself in the stacks. "When those two realize it, the fur will fly."
***
Chester glanced down one aisle and moved forward. Though he'd denied it to Theiry, there was something about Archer that made him curious. It made Pax curious as well. Chester prowled down one aisle and up another until he came arcoss Archer. "So, hows it going?"
Archer hadn't been sitting long with the other students when they sent her off in search of more books as they were all to scared to as Chester for help. With minor grumbling she had wandered off back into the stacks in search of more books.
It didn't take long before Archer's arms were piled high with books, all of them balancing rather precariously considering she couldn't hold onto them very tightly with her wrist braced. When somebody came up behind her and asked her, "So, hows it going?" Only after she squeaked and dropped the books did Archer catch his scent and she resisted the urge to turn around and beat him. Chester had followed her. Instead of wanting to kill him, she felt the sudden urge to hide. She'd just dropped a pile of books and well, he was as in love with books as she was. She could only hope she hadn't damaged any or he'd never forgive her.
Turning around to face him as she bent down to pick up and inspect the books, Archer gave a playful glare and asked, "Don't you know its not nice to sneak up on people like that?" She hoped he caught the playfulness of her tone and look, she didn't want him to think she was mad at him.
Chester frowned at the sight of books hitting the floor but he stooped down and picked up the few that had landed near his feet. "Turn about is fair play, ya know. Just consider this payback for you sneaking up on me."
Chester handed the books to Archer and followed her as she left the aisle. "So, are you just taking His Highness' set design class for fun or for your major?" he asked while walking along side her. He wanted to know more about this girl. She was so odd, so different from the girls his mother normally shoved at him. He loved his mother but he didn't want to marry her. All the young woman introduced to him because their parents knew each seemed, to him, to be miniatures of his mother.
Noticing that Archer was having diffuculty carrying the books, Chester took the majority of the volumes and carried them. "Not nice of your groupmates to make you get the books when you have a bum arm, isn't it? You'd think that they'd be thankful after getting unsolcited help from the library aide."
Archer had to laugh when Chester told her him sneaking up on her was payback. She'd sorta spaced on that little incident and being reminded of it reminded her of tracking him through the library. That had been more fun than she was willing to admit to.
When Chester handed the books he'd picked up back to her, Archer had to juggle them to keep from dropping them again. Stupid brace was such an annoyance. She just needed to get out and Shift, let Zephyr explore her new surroundings, but she couldn't really do that with her school schedule this term. It was hectic to say the least. Once she had the books settled so they were somewhat stable, Archer answered Chester's question about the set design class. "For my major, I've been involved with drama since middle school. I know that sounds kinda cheesy but I really enjoy it. The people are all fun and a little wacky, and while I don't do a lot of acting if there's a show I really want to be in I will try out. Normally I prefer the behind the scenes stuff though like lighting, sound, and set design."
Curious where her sudden outburst of sharing had come from, Archer didn't say anything else until prompted by Chester. He had taken most of the books back from her, much to her relief, and he was now ragging on her groupmates about sending her to go get the books. She couldn't help but laugh as she turned her head to look him straight in the eyes and say, "Chester, they're all scared off you. I don't know why, but I'm beginning to catch on," that she said as she saw Chester flick a glare in the direction of another oncoming freshman who turned right around at the look. Archer just laughed harder. Chester was fun, not scary. He may send people on annoying goosehunts through the library for different books but instead of enjoying the joke that had been played on them, most people got upset. Their loss.
Chester grinned as the student turned right around and headed in the opposite direction of him. "I'm only a nice guy to those who take the time and get to know the library. You just caught me at a bad time yesterday. I'd just gotten off the phone with my mother and she was insisting that I come over for dinner. Apparently she has someone she wants me to meet. Not that I really want to meet him but she insists."
Chester set the books on the table that Archer's group had commandeered and waved to Archer. "Okay, I'n going away now. Archer, you know the routine for checking out books." Chester nodded to he group and wandered away. He stopped by Theiry's resting place, told him that everything was under control and he was leaving. Chester bounced down the stairs and slid behind the front desk. Dinner with his parents plus a new member of the kindle did not sound exciting but it was expected of him to be present.
